ayu's earphone!

mm. ive been noticing this in ayu's concert.

ayu always plugs into this pair of HUGE black earphones ( they're damn cool looking!) what is she listening to? she is just herself or does she listens to a metronome( like, timing for the song) too?

anyway, i'm curious: do singers record the main tune first or do they record the backing vocals first?

I'm pretty sure about this, but do correct me if I'm wrong. Singers in live performances hear themselves through their earphones so that they can hear themselves and know if they're sounding good or bad. This I learned after babysitting an eleven year old girl and forced to watch The Ashlee Simpson Show with her.
No clue about the backing vocals thing.

omg, haha! thats hilarious to me for some reason.

but yeah, i'm pretty sure thats just so she can stay on beat and keep in tune. probably has something to do with all those hearing problems she was having.

U cant hear the music on the stage as the music is loud and u cant get the correct tempo so earphones is a mus for concert performance.

^agreeing with that, it is some kind of "dB-protector for ear" too I think :P

Ah, I'm so ashamed. I've watched that episode too. :headache

It's used for her to hear herself to make sure she's on pitch, I don't even think timing has that much to do with it, since she obviousally knows the timing since she has to wear the earphones because the music is blasting in the first place. ^.~

Chibi_Venus 7th September 2005 11:19 PM

Yeah, I think it's the music she's hearing so she knows when to sing and all.
I have no clue about recording the songs though.

s.k.y 8th September 2005 12:52 AM

wow, i never knew what the purpose was either :P

Delirium-Zer0 8th September 2005 02:15 AM

Timing is a big part of it, but she hears the instruments' mic pickup (as well as her own, of course) in her earpiece, not a click track. If she just went by how the music sounds onstage, the reverb would put her WAY off alot of times.

ayufan89 8th September 2005 07:46 AM

uh huh. oh ic. so that's what she's listening too. no one else thinks that the earphones are cool? lol.

Jennie Mae 8th September 2005 07:59 AM

I think they look cool. Especially on the cover of the CDL 2004-2005 DVD.

My family did this as a test once a long time ago, because my dad is big into music and he wanted to show us. ^^

We turned the music up very high on the instrumental track, so loud that a person couldn't hear themselves when they sang.

Aother person wore the headphones that the vocal would play out of, so they could hear the vocal.

The result was always the same -- the person singing sang HORRIBLY because they couldn't hear themselves, and the person with the headphones was pretty much rolling on the floor laughing. :laugh It was just hilarious!

So, normally, a performer will have an earpiece so that they can hear what they're sounding like. :yes

It quite interesting!! If you take a really close look she actually started wearing those headphone starting the DOME TOUR!! Before that she never did wear those headphone. So in my opinion I think it has something to do with her hearing problem!!
