What song would you choose as a tribute?

this thread is kinda inspired by the funeral song thread...NO FIGHTS THOUGH!!!

anyway, i was wondering, if you were a popular singer in Japan, and all of a sudden Ayu died :weep, and she was your favorite singer and inspired you the most, which one of HER songs would you sing as a tribute to her? or would you make your own song?

Annabelle 30th September 2005 01:21 AM

A Song for XX. I really think it would be the perfect choice.

same response for the funeral thread:

definatley when she performed end roll from stadium tour 2002. I even uploaded it, just to prove how sad it truly can be.

Plus look at the lyrics, truly fitting to a final tribute:

I can't go back
no matter how much I miss it.
That time was definitely fun, but
that was then and this is now.

I remember how I've always
pulled the curtains in an awkward way.

Where are you?
Where have you gone?
You've gone on a long trip or something
with the most important person.

If it started with
something I said,
we can see our end. It couldn't
have been the beginning.

Like a child crying for something,
with all my strength, goodbye.

And I walk on.
I'll walk alone and see for myself,
with light shining on the path
you've abandoned.

People are sad.
Are they really?
I said they're happy, but
you can think that if you want to.

So I walk on.
You'll go too, won't you?
With light shining
on our two separate paths.

"A Song for XX". It represents herself plus, it's my favorite song.

Love Appears 30th September 2005 02:00 AM

I see why people would say "A Song for XX", but I personally feel there are more appropriate songs that could serve as a memorial. Whereas ASFXX is about her past, her childhood, it's something she sings as a way to express her frustration at a certain point in her life, not timeless.

I had to think long and hard for this one. But after looking at some translations, I'm going to have to agree and say End Roll is a really excellent choice, lyric wise. So peculiar how she has seemingly so many sad songs, but only a couple fit lyrically.

Take a look at these as well:

too late - More of a sort of "life's too short" message... some people go through their lives at full speed, having all the wrong priorities and not slowing down to appreciate it. I didn't choose this because it doesn't describe Ayu herself and could be misinterpreted. The sound may be too "pop"-like.

a song is born - This would be my second choice. She wants us to remember the form this world should have. She wants us to appreciate life; that dreams and hopes are all in this world.

"Hold the flowers to your heart,
and pray that they may some day bloom."

WOW! I just listened to end roll and it really caught my attention. So unique, I love what she does with her voice.

LacusClyne 30th September 2005 02:10 AM

a song for XX, that was ayu's most famous song then, and it was a song that let us know ayu better. yes, it would very perfect. then, there could be a follow up song, winding road which represent the ayu now.

shinde 30th September 2005 02:40 AM

I would pick A Song for XX also...though I agree with Love_Appears that ASFXX is her past, but to me when I think of Ayu I think of ASFXX. But I think End roll would be my second choice if not ASFXX

Mad_Cactuar 30th September 2005 08:08 AM

For Ayu I would choose a sad song.. I'd take Rainbow or A SONG FOR XX.. MAKE SURE AYU LIVES FOREVER, I cant think of life without her existence..

Qt Mashi 30th September 2005 08:20 AM

hmm well im not sure though, the song i pick would be something about how i feel towards Ayu...

i have not yet read all her lyrics yet :)

DA1SUK1DAY01691 30th September 2005 10:37 AM

for now, it'd be RAINBOW... that song has some deep stuff in it. I like it.

suriken 30th September 2005 12:17 PM

I love that song, but I wouldn't say it's the perfect choice for a memorial to her because it only focuses on the rough times in her life.

I would probably chose Endless Sorrow because the song is about struggling but continuing on no matter how hard things are. The light shining in the darkest times.

heyrill 1st October 2005 03:25 PM

RAINBOW.......

chocosaki 1st October 2005 04:43 PM

Hmmm.....all these songs would make me depressed. I look at death differently than most. I don't want to remember the sad parts, but rather, the good and upbeat times! ^_^ So for me, I would have to say...Fly High. The song is pretty upbeat (lyrics suggest otherwise in sorts). The title alone make it sort of a send off song to our dearest departed idol.

sora2522 9th October 2005 08:58 PM

i would pick alot of songs...this is mi list:
a song for xx (favorite, and it began her career)
endless sorrow (hint hint SORROW)
fly high (like choco said, almost like departing)
grateful days (remember her good times)
heaven (1. where she's prolly end up in. 2. her last sing b4 her 'death', in this scenario)

Celaphorce 9th October 2005 09:24 PM

I would either sing Dearest or Heaven for her if she ever died, and I might sing one of my own works for her because I know I wrote some that are about her.

sakura_mars 9th October 2005 10:21 PM

End Roll. I think if there was a slide show collage and they had to pick an original Ayumi song for the soundtrack, A Song for XX. But yeah, the lyrics to End Roll are perfect for a tribute.

Ayumi can't die though! I think when she does, she will become a recognised kami. Like all people are kami somewhat, but really great ones can become real major kami, like a saint sort of. If I ahve this right, then I think Ayumi would surely fit this.

lotusoka 9th October 2005 10:40 PM

I'd choose Close to you

I will always be by your side
Though I can do nothing else

On the days of tears and on the days of smile
I will be by your side

Everyone walks on
To meet just one person some day

Even if I'm reborn some day
I will surely find you

And I will walk on again
To meet you
