what is an OBI for?
Lol, I have no idea what these cards are for that are in the Ayumi Singles...
I threw the "&" one in the garbage thinking it was nothing of use... did I just throw away something that would make my "&" album incomplete -.-? What does OBI stand for and what is it used for? (Is it supposed to be stuck in somewhere...) What do YOU do with YOUR OBI Cards? |
"Obi" is a Japanese word for the sash (cloth belt) worn with kimonos. From what I read somewhere a while ago, it's also used as a decorative band around an LP (aka vinyl disc). Unless you're some collector of CDs and the things that go with them (i.e. booklets, etc), I don't think it matters whether you keep it or not, but it'd be up to you to decide that ;) !

i like to keep mine actually. in fact, i keep the cd in mint condition, including the obi and the plastic wrap. im like a perfectionist freak...lol... i get an exacto knife and cut a little slit in the plastic so i can take the cd out and make a copy, then i put it back into the plastic and put them in a place where no dust can get to them....haha, yeah, im a little obsessive
LOL OMG Y2KSPHINX UR LIKE MY TWIN. Hahaha I do like the same exact thing except I don't make copies. I'm just SUPER careful when I put them in my stereo. I keep everything and the plastic wrap too my family gives me weird looks when I open my cds it has to be like perfect. Also I always use antibacterial and oil reducing hand soap and moisturize after before touching my cd collection. CAUSE JPOP IS HELLA EXPENSIVE actually CD collecting is hella expensive overall. I don't even have that many authentic CDs around 19 or so. Most of them Ayu hehehe I just love her. Anyways yeah I keep everything ^_^.
Me just recently got: Zanna Don't! Broadway Musical Album (GAH I LOVE JAI RODRIGUEZ and I can't stop listening to it haha so POPPY) |
You crazy!?!? LOL Being so hard to find (and since I got my cds from a great friend) I surely keep the OBI card! The OBI one for Daybreak rocks (itīs made of blue plastic with an ayupan in the back) and looks pretty cool!
:laugh i didnt know what to do with mine..the one that came with &...i taped it in place.. :P
I have kept all mine ever since I made the grave mistake of throwing away my "I Am..." OBI card :doh They don't really do much...but I'd rather just keep it anyways :shrug
Err... I didn't ever know what to do with them either. I've kept most of them. But they're really just umm... yeah... :think
I just keep the spine card (obi) while throwing away the plastic wrap. ^_^
The OBI strip on my Jpop CDs I keep... I did make a big mistake throwing away a few OBIs, but they were from my anime soundtracks... and I display all my jpop CDs near my desk so I can just grab one when I'm writing or drawing something.

what is an obi for?
I don't know if this has been posted before but anyways...I am a fan of jpop music for years (my favourite ayumi-of couse, koda, namie and more) what i want to know is what is an obi used for?
obi is the thing they package with on the spine of the cd right? if so, I think for overseas versions, they use so they can print other languages like chinese and korean. Not sure for Japan versions, but it's probably just so it looks more complete and nicer.
for decoration, and probably cheaper packaging. (no back cover)
And for putting on all the info so the artwork doesn't have to be ruined by barcodes, price, release date, etc.
what IS an OBI anyways?
That piece of paper that goes around the spine of the CD extenally is the OBI.
