Can Ayu ride a bike?
 

So on the Hey x3 episode where they try to get her to ride a bike, it seems that she doesn't know how. But if you watch the file "Ayumi Hamasaki - sukora special (ayu posing).mpeg" she's totally riding a bike at the beginning (this was when she was about 15 yrs old, right?). Both files are up by LeButler on the downloads page, in the 4gigs of misc stuff thread. What do you think? Can she or can't she?

That's something that has always kind of bothered me too because in that Idol special she is clearly riding a bike. Maybe she is just not very good at it? I would hate to think Ayu was lying just so she could act cute on Heyx3 :shrug:

I personally think that after such a long time of not having to ride a bike, one would have trouble doing it.

I mean, if I didn't ride a bike until I was 22 from when I was like 16.. I don't think I'd have even touched a bike.. xD

Riding a bike is like ... riding a bike: you never forget. She was mostly acting cutesy on the Hey Hey Hey show. But she's very good at it, so I let her off :ycool

On Heyx3 Ayu was really shy. Maybe the whole situation made her nervous and she wasn't able to drive a bike normally?
But answering the question, I'd say yes, I'm pretty sure she can drive a bike.

As others have stated, that is why the expression "It's like riding a bike" exists - it's something you don't forget how to do.

sad to say, i agree to what LeButler said. you will never forget how to ride a bike. just like you will never forget how to eat. (unless you suffer from a stroke) :P

but was the bike Ayu riding when she was young a 4 wheel bike or 2 wheel? i cant rememebr

In the making of the INSPIRE PV, too, it seems she doesn't know how to ride a bike...her big bodyguard is dragging her around by the handlebars and she's screaming. xD

Well I forgot how to ride a bike ^.^;; (I haven't ridden one since I was six or seven and I'm 18 now. :p)

So it is possible that she could've forgotten or something bad happened while she was riding her bike & blocked that memory out.

Plus didn't she have training wheels on the idol vid?

i'm sure she's acting cutesy. maybe she isn't as good as she used to be at riding a bike, but she's certainly playing it up to look cute.

And she's riding completly fine on that bike on the idol video. When they were shooting INSPIRE, I believe she was just fooling around. The bodyguard was indeed holding the handlebars, but more like he wanted her not to do anything and let him just pull her forward.

Same here. Watching the idol video, the camera pans up to her riding a bike quite well. Now, in more recent interviews and shows, she plainly says, "I can't ride a bike" and flailed around in that Heyx3 episode. It's definitely a question mark but I'm inclined to think that everyone in a top spot in the entertainment industry fudges some facts at some point.

My boyfriend hadn't ridden a bike in many years, so when we bought bikes in Japan he had some trouble at first. But it was never as dramatic as him falling, flailing, and looking like he had never ever ridden a bike before. I could imagine Ayu has gotten rusty at the whole bike riding thing but she probably does ham it up for the sake of cuteness / good TV.

actually I DON'T believe Ayu's bike-story..

* Ayu clearly could ride a bike in 1994
* She couldn't ride a bike in 2002
* Suddenly in 2004, she showed no problems riding a bike

I don't get it.. They couldn't have faked the 1994 and 2004 ones (gosh, why would a J-idols get the effort and money to fake something like that. She wasn't even famous back then).

Only logical thing would be that Ayu faked that she couldn't ride a bike. But I have no idea why she would do that.....

because its cute and endearing.
