"Coming out" posts deleted

Last night I responded to posts in the "Coming out..." thread in the general Chat forum, and now I have found that it, along with a few others, has been deleted. I would just like to be told why.

My own post was not off-topic, nor was it offensive or of a disharmonious tone. I shared my experience and thoughts on the coming out process as a member of the community this thread applies to, and I posed a question of values to my fellow members of the GLBT community which was meant to be stimulating to the discussion and satiating to the curiosity of many other gay people like myself.

At the start of my post, I also responded to previous posts which were off topic and offensive, and if my post needed to be edited to reflect the deletion of those posts, that is understandable. But as of now I feel sincerely offended that even the rest of my entirely valid post was disposed of.

Some replies have been temporarily split to a hidden area pending a joint staff decision on whether they should stay.

Your very reasoned post was only included in the split because it was part of that whole conversation (and also included quotes from the offensive posts).

It may therefore be returned later today - as you say probably without those quotes.

I understand, and I very much appreciate your quick response. I was hoping there was something else that I wasn't seeing, because it really troubled me to think my thoughts in that discussion were of little regard or thought counter-productive. Thank you for clearing this up, Le Butler, and to the staff for keeping the forum tidy.

i noticed those posts had disappeared too. i hope no one took my post seriously or the wrong way because i was just joking, but i guess it probably was way off topic. oops. :o

It is not unusual for posts that quote other objectionable ones to be trashed, even though the rest of that post was acceptable. You were not being singled out.

well you cant even say gay or ***** on this site. it gets bleeped and those are non offensive words majorly. oh well. btw im ga~y.

EDIT: ok you CAN say gay. but still my aim screename is inqu**ringminds. and qu**r gets bleeped.

^ That's because normally "*****" is an offensive term, but lately I've been seeing it used as "odd" more than anything.

JaysenRyan 8th July 2006 10:56 AM

yeah odd sounds more like it, honestly i never thought of ***** as offensive.

LeButler 8th July 2006 05:25 PM

(The content was really nasty, almost hate-crime-like. Posts were not removed merely for bad language).

PickleCookies 8th July 2006 10:51 PM

("hate-crime" is so passé, you should use 'derogatory' or 'bigoted')

Well, I think it's offensive, and if I do then I'm sure others are sure to as well ^^` I think people should just stick to the word "odd".

Daking 9th July 2006 10:52 AM

yeah, in the world we live in we are so diverse and we really have to be careful not to offend anyone, Its always better to stick with the more accepted word than risk offending people, jokingly or not.

Single me out too. I use "*****" in sentences and essays but no harm there.. It means strange/odd by the way. But I get your point.

I know what it means, considering I suggested an alternative: "odd" o___o```
