Rachel Stevens

Any fans here? Of course there are, I know some of you love her lots. :P Rachel Stevens makes amazing music which became ignored due to her public pop starlet image. And some other controversy I don't know about because I don't live in the UK.

Anyway, anyone knows what's up with her lately? I really hope she hasn't stopped her music career, she makes stunning pop music. They're just so good, they're crazy. Plus her stuff aren't released in the US so we can share...

Some info collected so far:

Funky Dory
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ryoriginal.jpg

Debut album, a commercial success. Critically not well received but obviously most people lapped it up. IMO, dreadful. After the second single flopped, a re-release was released which spawned two more stellar singles.

Album reached #9 in the UK and sold 310,000 there, with the re-issued version selling more than the original.

Singles
#02 Sweet Dreams My LA Ex
#26 Funky Dory
#02 Some Girls
#03 More, More, More

Come And Get It

Second album, a commercial failure. Not released in many territories due to poor performance in the UK. Critically acclaimed for it's stylish pop music. Excellent album. Also contains Some Girls.

Album reached #28 in the UK and sold only 18,000 copies in the first three months.

Singles
#02 Some Girls (from Funky Dory re-released)
#10 Negotiate With Love
#10 So Good
#12 I Said Never Again (But Here We Are)

This makes me miss S Club 7

Same here.

I wonder if Jo actually.. yeah..

Mad_Cactuar 1st October 2006 09:51 AM

Someone made a single and flopped badly if I remember correctly.. *scratches up some dirt*

In July 2005, Jo announced that she had signed a new solo recording deal with Sanctuary Records, the label behind acts such as Morrissey, KISS and Megadeth. Her debut single, "What Hurts the Most" (#13 UK), was released on 26 September 2005, followed a week later by her album, Relentless, getting disappointing charts results along the UK and Europe Charts, getting in the UK the #47 and in Ireland the #152. She has already performed at various roadshows in the UK alongside the likes of Lemar, Girls Aloud and her old bandmate Rachel Stevens.

How depressing.

Well, I always thought Rachel was crazy hot, was surprised when I found out she had a solo career.

Funky Dory wasn't that impressive but I've loved Come And Get It ever since I downloaded it here. It is such a shame that the sales were so bad.

Marseille 1st October 2006 09:05 PM

does anyone have these albums?

Marseille 1st October 2006 09:06 PM

I've bought all the s club albums, but I didn't know that nay of them had mad solo albums

Mad_Cactuar 1st October 2006 10:12 PM

I don't have the second album because it's not sold in Asia, but I did download the songs. Unless you want Funky Dory and I'll try to upload that sometime later.

I love Sweet Dreams my LA Ex :) And there's another happy bouncy one but I forget its name...

And I love Girls Aloud, too. My boyfriend got me into them lol

How did I miss this thread lol?

I think right now Rachel's concentrating on her "acting". I say "acting" cause I don't think it's gonna go anywhere. She's apparently considering doing the next series of "I'm a Celebrity..." but I don't think she will. Would be cool if she did! She still has a deal to do a third album, although I reckon it will be her last with Polydor. I wonder how it will sound? I guess Polydor will want to change her sound b/c of CAGI's sales. But I'm not sure what else she could do since the electro pop sound is what we hear from most female pop singers and bands. Hope we get an album soon! This is why I like japanese artists - you don't have to wait forever for a new album!

I can upload some songs, from her second album, at the weekend if anyone wants me too.

EDIT: Can't believe So Good only got to #10!

You have Rachel remixes? If you do, can you please share them?

evolusean 13th October 2006 05:51 AM

Wow! I'm such a bad fan. It was only this week in another thread that I saw her name pop up and investigated her solo career. Before I had J-Pop and K-Pop, I was a Brit-Pop nut. I read Top of the Pops religiously and everything. But that was still way back in S Club 7's heyday. I had no idea any of them went solo, save Paul leaving and pursuring a new band. She and Jo did all the singing, though, so it's no surprise that they're the two that at least tried.

I DL'd a few Rachel Stevens' tracks, and I kind of liked them. They're catchy and fun. None of the members of SC7 came off as particularly powerful artistic forces, though, so it doesn't really shock me that her stuff didn't really cut it on the charts. It would have been nice, though.

All right, I don't know their names though. I think the Negotiate In Love one is the radio edit remix found on the CD1, so investigation must be done on Wikipedia.

Oh, so you have been a really bad fan indeed... Rachel was the first to seriously go solo and it was her efforts that got most of media coverage :)

I pretty much feel for the S Clubbers, but you could tell that their luck was basically 19 Management and Mr. Simon Fuller - without them, it didn't work too well. And even with them (as Rachel's still managed by 19) it doesn't work well anymore. The seven was the power, I guess.

Mad_Cactuar 14th October 2006 02:52 AM

I think Rachel screwed up her career with her sexy bimbo starlet image. I know she's intelligent, but she's portrayed as a sex kitten and nothing else.

My upload failed.. x__x Stupid YSI.

It's true. 19 and Simon were magic makers that could turn average kids into overnight sensations. But once that force is gone, the kids become average again. It's unfortunate, though, because I really loved them. So fun and energetic and fresh and clean, without being annoyingly cheesy. They send me back to happy days.

Here's a couple of songs - will upload more tonight:

So Good

I Said Never Again (But Here We Are)

Enjoy!

Cyria 14th October 2006 07:29 PM

Thanks for the remix, MC Tatsujin!

I Said Never Again (But Here We Are) is still one of my favourites, but there isn't a single boring track on the album. All About Me is one of the songs I'm really liking now, didn't pay much attention to it when I first heard the album.
