21/2: Mika Nakashima - 見えない星
A proper Mika Nakashima ballad that's slightly jazzy. Excellent work, her first since Sakurairo Maukoro way back then.

21/2: Ai Otsuka - CHU-LIP
Poppy and lightweight fare from Ms.Otsuka who never sold less than 100,000 copies per single, ever since Sakuranbo.

28/2: Utada Hikaru - Flavor of Life
I have no idea how to describe this. Excellent melodies. Vocals... acquired taste?

The one thing I wondering is why a lot of releases are scheduled to be released on 2/28 (Hikki, Ayu, Kuri)? It's like a big release party going on that day or something.....:mischief

To be honest, I HATE the new Utada song. It has excellent melodies and arrangements, but the vocals are dreadful. I think she's probably trying a new style or something, but it comes across as breathless and amateurish. It's terrible. :headache It doesn't sound like "a manifestation of her emotions" as Wikipedia put it. It sounds like she just finished her tour and had to run into the studio and record a hundred songs. And this from a long-time fan.

Vocals aside, I bet the instrumental will be gold.

i dun think hikki's vocals were THAT bad...i loved the song all the same
i haven't heard ai's new song yet, but i have a feeling it'll be like her usual, as my friend calls it, obnoxious pop XD
mika's new song is like...well...the same XD only a LOT better....it's so addicting...i can't wait till her album comes out

Hikki's got some really bad breathy vibrato thing going on in FoL. It ruins the song, and it had such potential...*sigh*

Mika is very good too, I love her ballads. For Ai, I'm not much of a fan of her anymore ):

I only heard hikki and mika's song....they're both good but the one that I have it playing the most is mika's. Her voice it a lot more smoothing which makes the song overall better in my opinion. :)

Flavor of life got good potential, but Utada's voice ruined it. Her voice's been like that ever since Dareka, and it's disappointing, because she had strong vocals.

Chulip is a disappointment. Then again, I don't really think Ai had released anything good since Love Cook (Haneari Tamago).

Haven't heard Mika's.

i chose mika because she has such a husky voice that goes well with her ballads

not to mention she has so MANY good ballads, that i have to pick her.

and she's really pretty and mature

i'll go with Hikki this time around even though only the ballad version's out. i guess because it's affiliated with Hana Yori Dango 2 (the timing of the song was PERFECT in episode 2). & i love the arrangement.

i've heard Mika's song, it's good, but comparing to her other ballads i think it's quite flat. & i haven't really enjoyed an Ai Otsuka song since Planetarium's release.

Hikki will probably get 200k+ sales, but probably nowhere near Planetarium's status..

Mika's single is yawn. It seems like she was trying to do a cross between WILL and FIND THE WAY but failed.

It doesn't even seem like she wanted to sing the song. She sounds so "whatever" LOL

Ai's song is horrible IMO. I don't like it at all. Then again I've never really liked her music. The only song I've ever liked from her was Cherish.

Hikki is just plain blah now. Like everyone said, her vocals ruin the song. It's just too bad. Maybe she's going through withdrawals.

Mika: I like her jazzy music, but this one was a bit boring.

Actually...I don't think you can fairly judge Flavor Of Life yet...all we've heard is the Ballad Version..when in indeed the regular version will be upbeat!
