females have actually been "rockers" for quite some time, longer than most people think. from Joan Jett, to Heart, to more recent additions like Garbage (Shirley Manson) and Avril Lavigne, girl rockers are always prevalent. though, that's not to say they're necessarily good. i don't know a whole lot about Joan Jett or Heart, but i think Garbage has some great songs. but, i also personally think Avril Lavigne is one of the worst singer/songwriters working in the music business today. also, there are many females that play guitars or sing back-up vocals for otherwise male-dominated bands like A Perfect Circle and KMFDM.
but if you want to hear a true female rocker today, then check out Tomiko Van of DAI.

personally i didn't really like Bring Me To Life. i thought it rather bland and unoriginal, nothing new. and nevermind the fact that it's the themesong for Daredevil, arguably the worst superhero movie since Roger Corman's Fantastic Four.

I never even heard of Evanescence until chibinina sent me the mp3 a few days ago :laugh

But it's pretty good to me... and I DL the music vid too and liked it... sure, it's not 100% great, but it's pretty high up there on my list :)

Sakura_Drops 23rd April 2003 02:19 PM

OMG I love them they totally rock....After Linkin Park of course.

AyuTrance 23rd April 2003 05:02 PM

Evanescence rock!!
DareDevil sux though...
i heard from my friend that Evanescence is only the girl...
the band is not part of Evanescence...
is this true?

AyuMiHypErMiX 23rd April 2003 09:33 PM

Iunno, but someone told me that they are a Christain band.. i wonder it this is true...

btw... Bring me to life is totally being overplayed.. and My Immortal just rox!

launch619 23rd April 2003 10:37 PM

Evanescence is a really good band. (The album cover also rocks.)

AyuTrance, I'm pretty sure that they are a band and its not just Amy Lee (the singer) on her own. (Checked the website for that piece of info.)

Speaking of Amy Lee, she sure is a good singer. Nice voice, especially on the slower songs on the album.

bulmasman 23rd April 2003 10:45 PM

I love Evanescence, they seriously do rock. I haven't heard to many songs by them yet, and I would have to say that Bring Me To Life is the best i've heard so far, not to say that their other songs aren't good though.

Also, I personally found Daredevil a better movie than Spider-man, but that's my own opinion. What can say, I like'd the DD comics more than the Spider-man ones. Anyway, just to close I gotta say that X-men is by far the greatest comic book to movie I've seen. I can't wait for X2 next week.

paper_doll 24th April 2003 12:04 AM

I LOVE THEM!!! SOO GOOD!!!!!

AyuTrance 24th April 2003 11:57 AM

thanx for telling me,lauch619

Set_0ne 24th April 2003 12:34 PM

Their album haunts me. I got into their music a few months ago now. It was exactly the type of music I needed for then.

'Hello There...' and 'My Immortal' haunt me because I can relate to them.

I never saw Dare Devil and I never want to. I thought it looked pretty corny and besides the two actors in it I dislike alot. Heh!

Oh and to whoever mentioned Spiderman..Geez, that movie was such a big flop. They couldn't have done it any worse! Comics needa stay in 2D not 3D unless it's a cartoon otherwise it comes out wrong!

Thats just what I think so no offence to anyone who thinks differently! ^_^

Peruvian_Sky 24th April 2003 05:11 PM

If you like Evanescence check out Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, and/or The Gathering. Either one of those bands are much better and do not have the boring, repeititve nu-metal guitar riffing. I would have gotten into Evanescence a lot more if their guitarist actually would try something different. I just find that whole ''play 6 notes, rest for 2 beats'' thing very overdone and extremely dull. He does that throughout almost the entire album.

not to rain on your parade or anything, but the definition of a "flop" is a movie that tanks at the box office. spider-man did anything but. in fact, it grossed over $400 million at the US box office alone. i.e., that's good, especially consdering that about 90% of all movies released in theaters in the US DO NOT make their budget back. studio executives probably spend a lot of time sacraficing chickens and what not, praying that their movies at least break even.
i like Sam Raimi (though i think a bit less of him since hearing that he picked up the remake rights to the Japanese horror film Ju-On), but i also think less of Spider-Man the movie now than i did after first seeing it.
personally, i think the best comic book to movie adaptation is still Richard Donner's original Superman with Christopher Reeve. sure the effects are a bit outdated (though it won an oscar for them back in 1978), but the movie works so well. Gene Hackman is absolutely hilarious and Christopher Reeve is eerily reminiscent of Cary Grant with his tall, lanky frame and child-like innocence. plus, the soundtrack is easily one of the great movie scores of all time.
after Superman, i'd have to go with Tim Burton's Batman. to hell with Joel Schumacher and his flamboyant sequels, Gotham City is supposed to be DARK and GRITTY (hence the word "gotham" which shares the same meaning as "gothic").

shinji1698 25th April 2003 12:22 AM

hmm I don't like their music. It's like I've heard it all before. They're basically linkin park with a female singer. -_-

samuraiDRIVE 25th April 2003 12:25 AM

Evanescense IS the girl (Amy) and the band. The guy (Paul McCoy of 12 Stones) is the only member of 12 Stones that is in the song. The band and Amy are Evanescense.

I think they're pretty good. They sound like a female Linkin Park.

Ayufan Vegeta: Agreed. Heart is one of my favorite bands. And female rockers have been out ever since male rockers. Sometimes I think they're better >.< He he
