[random] The VENGABOYS surprise...

For all the Vengaboys fans out there :D

I'm sure plenty of you know the pop/eurodance band Vengaboys, who enjoyed quite a success in Europe around the year 2000.

Well, today, out of nowhere, I bumped on the making of video of their Kiss (When The Sun Don't Shine) video on Youtube. The greatest Vengaboys treat ever for me. The making featurette shows they were pretty popular in Japan as well.

the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCW8TUpgzp8
the making of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXHnS_k_7WU

Be careful to read the notes appearing on the screen. I had never thought that video was shot by one of Japan's most successful directors, Muto Masashi! Also, as many of you might not know, Tokyo doesn't really have such thing as filming permissions, every meter of the street outside usually belongs to owners of respective buildings standing in front of it and the city authorities absolutely don't allow blocking the traffic just to film. For example, the production of Wasabi (starring Jean Reno, Ryoko Hirosue) struggled with constant onlookers during filming in the downtown Tokyo and had to hide the tapes away from police, who technically could confiscate them. No "crowd extras" were ever used and people seen on the streets in the movie are regular pedestrians. Thus, I'm impressed that the production of Vengaboys video attained a mayor's permission to block off one of the malls and its area just to shoot - for the first time in history something like that was achieved.

And now the REAL treat.

After the band's breakup, Roy (the Cowboy) went on to work as a steward. Not sure which airline exactly (the dutch, KLM?), but somebody was unbelievably lucky to attend a flight with him as the steward!!!

Those people were really, really lucky. Too bad they weren't really aware of who exactly the steward was.

lol, I loved the Vengaboys. They were big in Australia too.

That Boom Boom song is still the best though.

I always thought they had broken up but weirdly enough ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JbkO...elated&search=

A lot of 'bands' from that time are enjoying some re-unions.

Thanks for the links :D

Vengaboys were good! I remember Boom Boom Boom Boom throning the hit charts for months... But the Brazil song is also pretty good.
Roy, well I'm not sure. I always though the black girl was really hot. That blonde guy was not so bad either...:D

I'm thinking about putting up a fansite about vengaboys, they're pretty much gone from the internet and all the sites back from the 90s that still hold up are pretty obscure. Since there's been so much rumours about their comeback to the charts - they're pretty much still working, but not really reunited, more like they're back to being a club act - so I think it's a good time.

What do you guys think? I need motivation so you'd have to be checking in here at least once a week to keep me going if I decide to do it :P

wow thanks for the update!!

i didnt know about the wasabi trivia..it is a great film!

FuNsTyLe 24th August 2007 10:06 AM

Even if they will have a comeback, it won't be good. It's just one of those groups that belonged to the 90's/2000.
Same with Backsreet Boys.. You just know their comeback will be crappy. Boybands are so 90's and will probably not be popular again for a long while. I hope:P

Dustie 25th August 2007 11:56 PM
