Chinese drama mentioned ayu
 

I was watching a chinese drama, Wasabi Mon Amour (和味濃情) its a HK drama and in episode 18 they mentioned ayu...lol In that scene, the guy was trying to tell his girlfriend who his fav japanese idol is (I think its some made up person...or atleast I don't know who she is) and the girl doesn't know even though they have the same name (momoe).

Guy: how can you not know who she is? she used to be very famous.
Girl: like how famous? In Japan the most famous is 步姐. (this is how Chinese call ayu) Well did she ever have a concert here in Hong kong?

And also in Proposal Daisakusen, if you know that drama Eri mentions it when shes talking about having lentAyu's album to that midget guy what's his name again.. oh yeah! Tsuru hahaha
I think I've heard her been mentioned in other things but I remember those two the most =D

When was ayu mentioned in Azumanga Daioh?

I know she was mentioned in 1 Litre of Tears, and the put a note saying 'Ayumi Hamasaki is a famous J-Pop singer in Japan' in the english fansubs, like as if the people watching english fansubs wouldn't know! :P

And wasn't she on a billboard in Fast and Furious 2?

And in Azumanga Daioh at some point in the last DVD when Tomo cuts her hair, she's like "I think I'd rather go for Ayu [instead of Fujiko who has big boobs and long curls]~".

aah it's funny when you see ayu being mentioned in a drama....years ago when I used to like animes I was quite surprised to see a character from Ayashi no Ceres talking about hamasaki ayumi LOL

Hmm.. I dunno if someone here has already told about this, but in a Finnish soap opera called Salatut Elämät one girl mentioned Ayu too.

HK movie Love at First Note (I think?) also mentions her. Justin Lo (one of the protagonists) said something 'well you're not as hot as ayu' lol.

I think (maybe) One Million (Billion?) Stars Falling From the Sky (that drama with Kimura Takuya in it) mentioned Ayu once. Something about her fancy/long fingernails. I remember this because my grandma started talking about it and wanted to see pictures of her after that to see if it was true.

Probably the second or third....some elder woman mentioned her LOL

But Ayu is very famous, so having people make references is fairly normal.
