What the hell is Def Jam doing to Amerie?! :/

I never thought I'd see this happen, but Def Jam seems to be quickly turning Amerie into your run-of-the-mill hip hop singer. :shakehead I can just picture her releasing some song with T.I. or Kanye and it becoming the biggest hit of her career...

Apparently she iss working on her next studio album with L.A. Reid who is heading up the entire project, producers Rodney Jerkins, Danja, Polow da Don, The Neptunes, Rich Harrison, Swizz Beats, Sean Garrett, Bloodshy & Avant, DJ Toomp, Fernando Garibay, Kanye West, Ne-Yo and Stargate have already been confirmed. I see no Michael Cox in that list! :cry Future possible collabarations with Ne-Yo, Lloyd, Cee-Lo, John Legend, Kanye West & T.I. are already been in talks.

Is that Beyonce? No... it's Amerie. >.>

Maybe I'm overexgerrating(sp?), but this is like my favourite artist and I've always liked how Amerie has been so unique compared to all the the other urban singers out there. I don't really know how to word it all, it's really bugging me... :(

Lee_410 10th August 2008 10:28 PM

I like her songs. And she's awesome, but they aren't promoting her the right way!

Luv ~Venus~ 10th August 2008 10:43 PM

....just wtf?! Turning her into cheap hooker hip-hop trash is the way to get her career boosted again? :rolleyes Def Jam is an epic fail when it comes to promoting their artists except Neyo and Rihanna. What happened to the 1 Thing Girl? What happened to the Paradise Girl? (OMG! I luv that song! :heart) Ugh, turning female singers into hooker trash is so ******* old. =/ I mean, seriously. Why couldn't they leave her the way she was before? IMO, I luved her look in 1 Thing. I mean, it was simple and nothing to provocative. Now she looks like she's worked a several strip clubs. :grumpy Hip-hop I tell ya!

~ayu-cake~ 10th August 2008 11:09 PM

Woaaah.. she looks so different now o__o

Richieooxx 10th August 2008 11:11 PM

she doesnt look good with that kinda makeup. In the last pic she looks like Beyonce.

btw was Because I love It ever released in America? I wanted to by it but couldnt find it anywhere :(

ka♡ri. 10th August 2008 11:16 PM

Luv ~Venus~ 10th August 2008 11:21 PM

^Wow, ur such a hooker for liking those shoes Kay. I hate how they try to combine hip stuff with class stuff...it just come out wrong sometimes. (ie those shoes)

emi♡ 11th August 2008 12:04 AM

Def Jam already turned Janet Jacksons career into **** so this is sort of expected :weep

voltron 12th August 2008 01:29 AM

^ JJ's career has been dead for years before Def Jam!

yukihira 12th August 2008 01:46 AM

Oh gosh, Amerie was awesome before! NOOOOO, I hate the new look.

♥ you! 12th August 2008 01:48 AM

^^Yeah but Discipline was a step in the right direction, it was WAYYY better than Damita Jo and 20 Y.O. But Def Jam wanted to promote the album in a way that Janet disagreed with..and because of that all of the albums promotion was stopped :thud She said that in a recent interview, I forget from where. If they keep pulling stunts like that for her future releases then her career will become even more dead :(

extepan 12th August 2008 01:57 AM

she changed her record label or something?

i agree that the label has a big part in creating an image. it is interesting that people blame record labels for other artists' images, but they let ayu take credit for ayu's image.

kirei_ayumi 12th August 2008 02:33 AM

WTH!
I prefer the rnb/soulful amerie

Amerie left Sony BMG & signed on with Def Jam & I do agree I don't like her new image as well

she's an unique individual & she has her own style but I don't like the way her new image turns out to be now :no :(

Do you remember what they wanted to make her do? I'm intrigued now, since I hadn't heard that story before.

Honestly, it sounds like they're doing a LOT for her. I'm very impressed they're putting that much effort into her project.

Found a article talking about it :)
http://community.livejournal.com/ohn.../24240502.html

"That's pretty difficult to say, only because of the record label at this point. We started off with "Feedback" and the label and myself haven't quite seen eye to eye since the "Feedback" single so they’ve kind of basically stopped all promotion. I'm trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album so I don’t think you're going to hear another single off this album."

I'm not sure what exactly they wanted her to do..but Janet clearly didn't wanna do it.

norain 12th August 2008 07:05 AM

Oh this is interesting. Amerie's only had one hit. She's one of the few half asians (and she still looks asians in a lot of her pictures)...that has made it. Maybe this is a good thing...

Nelly Furtado took her change differently...by saying "that was me, and this is me now, I'm the same person." It's true, you don't do what the company has you do unless you want to. And Amerie wants to.

I'm sure if they wanted to sex up Utada, she would probably tell them a big no.

Kobayashiwoof 12th August 2008 11:41 AM

She deserves the attention but her new image seems kinda tacky
