Avex USA was a subsidiary from Avex. They established it in 1993 for licensing and mastering purposes (Avex USA ran the US recording studios) and released a few remixes of avex artists under it. In May 2007 it was shut down though, because apparently it was too costly. There is still a UK sub-label though. :)

oh wow they shut down ? what a pity ! i think they didnt promote enough well . i would have love to buy ayumi cd in regular store for decent price. tofu records shut down too . it seems like every japanese music company that try to licence they products in us shut down after a few years.

a lot more visual kei and jrock artist are coming now so why not jpop ?

emi♡ 30th January 2009 08:49 PM

^well the sounds are very different no?

and the market for those two genres are also very different.

I would expect that people who like pop in america won't be as "forgiving" to the lack of english vocals as people who would enjoy visual kei and jrock...imo anyway.
