Any quotes by her? (see first post)

I have a graphic design project to do, and I'm just wondering about this:

Does anybody know about a quote from Ayumi Hamasaki around any kind that has something to do with art in general?

If you have, please post them here, and if available, provide original Japanese text whenever possible.

Anyone?

I don't think that ayu is very into art... but she seens to be lot into pop culture esthetics and some into design (considering her special screens, pvs, outfits, covers...) o.o
So... never saw any quote by her about it

AyUta 11th June 2009 06:12 AM

Me neither. I tried doing a search too, but no good. :no

Since music is art, any quotes concerning her outlook on music could be used, I guess. For example, there's this one from the Jan. '06 issue of Sweet: "It will never be my mindset to 'do something new [just] to amaze everyone'. Of course, to follow my own thinking means I must strive for new creations and concepts." (Translated from Chinese, so no Japanese text, sorry.)

No, I'm looking on graphics...

noidea 11th June 2009 11:43 PM

Well, Ayu doesn't give many interviews, so it's hard to find something. And I never read about her talking about paintings.

Andrenekoi 11th June 2009 11:59 PM

I used some ayu works as influence on my graphic design projects... and there are some great thing to use... but I never saw much influence of art on it...

Delirium-Zer0 13th June 2009 06:48 PM

I hate to say this but if Ayu was a more art-centric person, her CD designs would be ALOT more interesting. ^^;;

noidea 13th June 2009 06:54 PM

^ Thats an opinion thing...I prefer simple but beautiful shots of ayu over these art things some people do, because ive never seen a cd cover with great art on it, but many with beautiful photos

Delirium-Zer0 13th June 2009 07:20 PM

That's the thing, it's very easy to do nice-photo-with-text, especially if you have a good-looking person. Ayu hasn't had a CD cover with meaning or significance in a long time. To date, I think "Endless sorrow" is the best CD cover she's ever done - that took thought & effort, and it has visual poetry to it. Nowadays the drive is to look pretty in order to sell more records, rather than to use artistic tools to get a message across.

I'm just saying, her priority is obviously to look nice, rather than to create real art, so I doubt she'll have any quotes about art & design.

But again Ayu is an entertainer... not a philosopher in disguise or whatever... lol. I mean it's really interesting; I think a lot of us kind of expect Ayu to be very deep and what have you cos her lyrics are like whoa great, and she really exudes a kind of depth too, no?

But yeah... I would say she's primarily an entertainer... like a normal human too... doubt there'll be any quotes on art/design lol.

I think it's cause she doesn't use themes in her singles/albums anymore. Her albums are always a variety of genres now and her singles are always double A-sides, so she can't really establish a theme for the album/single. Her themes aren't always artistic, but the CD cover/design connect with the song. The ayu-mi-x's show how uncreative her covers have became.

I also think that she has no art quotes, because she has no skill in art :lech Have you seen her try and doodle? :thud She's as bad as me in drawing.

noidea 13th June 2009 08:32 PM

^ So you say you have no skill in art if you cant draw? xD

This
The single covers became very simple over the years... But the album covers still have some message, and the pvs too (even if some of them are just beautiful... but some of her old ones are just beautiful too)

I feel that there is a dificult on her fans (maybe only the western ones) in getting her messages nowadays... IMO her album covers, pvs, concerts and lyrics are as meanful as they were in the past... She only changed the messages and some themes.

And you don't need to have art skills in order to understand art... Madonna can't paint or something, but her work is full of art references... I don't see this on Ayu work, but I can see a lot of pop culture influences on her concepts...

yeah, you cant tell me theres no meaning in the NEXT LEVEL covers for example, im not 100% sure WHAT exactly she wanted to express with it, but i know THAT she wanted to express something with it

Andrenekoi 13th June 2009 09:07 PM

I noticed that all the tvs on the cover are from diferent models and decades... So.. they are tvs from different Levels of evolution

noidea 13th June 2009 09:14 PM

^ yes, but i doubt thats EVERYTHING there is about it...some people mentioned that she might have been banned from music station(plus more shows?) for not apologizing, i think thats one aspect of it(she appeared on music station 12 weeks later, right? ~3 months, 3 months would seem like a fitting time for a "ban) But I think even that isnt enough to it, i just have the feeling theres more.

Andrenekoi 13th June 2009 09:17 PM

tv = mainstream sound + vision
maybe she is saying she is the next level of it
but i think this is not the better place for discussing it... what about a new thread? =D
