Boybands have been the "in" things in Japan since basically the 60s. It's not a trend that will be ending anytime soon. Its just that in the past, there were more female and group acts doing well that it seemed a bit more balanced - so the problem isn't the boybands, because they have always been in the position they are in; its that the women are giving them even less competition than they used to.
