Was Rainbow the very first album of Ayu's that she started using english in her lyrics???, I haven't been able to tell but I just noticed this if that is so, there's
Rainbow(even though it wasn't on the album RAINBOW) Real Me Heartplace Over So is this her first album she's had english lyrics presented? |

yes, which some people use to discredit it...
The english doesn't bother me at all, but some people think that the english somehow contributed to them liking it less.

yes... I remember how strange sounded "real me"... I think that it was the first song to promote the album, apart from the single.

In "monochrome" she says "Sunglasses", but it seems like it's a word incorporated to japanese, I dunno ![]()

It was bound to happen, seeing as how there's hardly any tracks with Japanese names

Love Since 1999 has a good amount of english in it, but I don't think that was on any album.

Well...I meant as a whole as an album which songs has she had the most english in so I don't think I made my statement right on the first post...
Yes, Love Since~1999~ was only on the Love~Destiny~ single, but never featured on an album, and yes Audience has english I'm aware of that, but I never knew that appears had "merry christmas" in it, and if any of her other songs besides her Rainbow era and On have english then I don't know about them |

i guess you could count the use of "MARIA" in M?

Well, if you include the yes in AUDIENCE then you'd have to include the 'wow yeah' in evolution. Because the meaning would change completely if she said 'no' in either of those songs, it is a real word in the context. The only part you can discredit as not really being English is her la's.
And as somebody mentioned, Merry Christmas is in appears. I don't think 'monochromes' sunglasses count's because the lyrics were in katakana. There were a few other pre-Rainbow songs with 'Japanified' English word's (kanariya etc) Last edited by Weslicious; 20th February 2007 at 04:37 PM. |

^Well, but "appears" has "Merry Christmas" written in katakana, too.
I think in the case of "Merry Christmas" and "sunglasses" it's something different than with even say "YES". Because Japanese doesn't seem to have its own terms for it, so they took the English ones.

The case of monochrome is total Japanese as well. The word is "sangurasu". It is an English loan-word, coming from the word "sunglasses", but it is its own Japanese entity used in everyday speech. It is as Japanese as the word "fakkusu" (fax) or koohii (coffee). (side note: If the word "sunglasses" was directly expressed in Japanese, it would become "sangurasesu" or "sangurasezu".) As for "MARIA", that is a proper name, and it does not count. It is what the virgin Mary is called in Japanese. "Merii kurisumasu" is also Japanese for "Merry Christmas". Not quite English. As far as her self-written, avex material is concerned, RAINBOW was the first album in which actual English appeared. |
