Ayaka- just married, diseased and might be retiring!?
....that's right. Not only has Ayaka gotten married with Hiro Mizushima, she's supossedly....
quitting music cause she has Graves' disease.... on the bright side she's coming out with a new single but I'm assuming this will be the final album. ![]() Sources (official): http://news.google.co.jp/news?hl=ja&...num=1&ct=title EDIT: after re-reading and double checking, it appears right now that she is GOING TO TAKE A BREAK. It's not for sure that she's retiring, that was a rumor I heard, I hope its not true though! I'd much rather have a long break than her never coming back! But basically she's quitting for a while. If there's a mod reading this, could you please change the title of this thread to "might be retiring"? I think I was too caught up in the moment... from grief.

All thyroid's diseases can cure without problem!
So, it's sad that she take a break. However I can understand her. I was tired for a long time so I think she need a rest too. Last edited by Yoake; 8th April 2009 at 09:51 PM. |

I did not know that this disease was the same thing as thryoid issues, thanks for clearing that up. The press made it sound like she had something much worse.

Maybe but media like to darken the reality. And It's, maybe, a way to increase her single sale. People think" oh no, she'll be retiring and she is sick "So, they buy her stuff!

That's actually quite interesting in terms of coincidence, since I'm on an endocrinology service this month and there's a lot of Grave's disease patients I have to see there. The disease has treatment, so that doesn't mean she has to retire because of it. Maybe take a few months off to get her T hormones under control. Not sure if her looks have changed though, since Graves can often complicate with a ophtalmopathy or a large goiter can be visible over the neck. Surgery or radioactive iodine can solve the goiter problem though, but, then I guess she discovered it quite early. Anyone has any recent pictures of her?
All I acn wish is for her to get well and back to business!

It's hyperthyroid look at wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graves%27_disease Why I find more alarming it's more and more young people have thyroid disease. Normally, it's people who is 40, 50 or more who are affected by them! The air is really bad nowadays. |

There isn't a specific known cause for why it starts, but what happens is that some defense cells called lymphocytes that were supposed to make antibodies to defend the person against germes and tumors, one day look at the person's thyroid and say "hmm that thing doesn't belong here" and then they start producing antibodies against certain thyroid structures. In the case of Graves, however, the antibodies actually stimmulate some receptors in the thyroid gland, causing the gland to grow (and then a goiter can appear over the neck) and produce too much hormone. The inflammation process can also affect the structures that holds the eyes, making the eye balls to protrude (exophtalmia). The thyroid hormones are important for basal body metabolism (kinda like a button that determines at what speed and intensity should our cells work, grossly speaking). The excess of it makes the body cells to overwork, making the heart to beat faster and sometimes it even goes crazy beating fast and randomly with not much synchrony (arrhytmias), and get overloaded if not treated, finally leading to cardiac pump failure; rise in the body temperature, weight loss and intolerance to heat, because of the excessive production of heat energy from overwork; the person becomes more agitated, speaking faster and too much and the hands start to tremble. Bone minerals start to get wasted..and well, all that stuff and more can happen if the disease is not properly treated.
