"Hope nobody stone me to death or something... But Ayu lyrics never were known for wordplay or puns... on this aspect, she is very straightfoward... Even the examples cited here are mostly use of japanese idioms "
Andrenekoi, you didn't reply simply because they asked for puns and wordplay, you knew your reply would spark a reaction. Don't go picking arguements..if you had read the thread, where it's going quite smoothly with the original question being answered, you should have had sense alone not to say anything. If the person was asking if there was any, obviously being a non-Japanese speaker, how would they know there were no puns etc? ==; |

Do you mean "kimi ja nakya dame de"? That's really just an example of a line that's hard to translate, since "ja nakya" and "dame" don't really have straightforward english equivalents. As a result, there's subtext we can only glean from the previous lyrics. Masa's translation of "I can't think of anyone but you" is a BIG leap from the data we've actually gotten from the line, and he's based that translation on the story of the lyrics up to that point. It's more literally "if not you, useless/bad." Needless to say, there's alot you can do with that.
If you're referring more to the "doushite tokidoki... etc" part, lines with similar structure is a technique many lyricists use to emphasize a point or hammer in a message, and also (on a more cosmetic level) to make lyrics easier for themselves and their fans to memorize (although it often has the opposite effect, lol). But she's used that idea in other songs too, like "Moments", "A Song for XX", "Will," and several others.

Adrenekoi is right. Seriously people, chill out. Just because s/he's saying there aren't any puns or such in Ayu's lyrics doesn't mean s/he isn't contributing. It's a contribution, but clearly not the one you were hoping for.

I've always found the title 'monochrome' as a pun because in the song 'mo' and 'mono' appear a number of times in the lyrics. I don't know if this was just a coincidence or on purpose.
