While I don't think she's the best vocalist, I love how her voice improved over the years. Although I still think she needs to reign in her vibrato.

definitely
she is unique just like kuu chan n namie, utada, but even sometimes ayu can sing off-key I think she's one of the best, I mean, there are few Japanese singers who can do vibrato |

Well I guess Ayu has a good voice, it isn't weak but I wouldn't say its strong either.

she has a strong voice. i mean, who can reach the notes she has reached in "connected"? that "sude ni" part. like hoooooooly shiiiiiieeet. that's high. she really knows how to sing and pierce your heart. no one else did that to me but her. it's so addicting and powerful, so full of emotion and STRENGTH.

That's really not a high note, though; it's only an E5. It just sounds high because Ayu can barely squeak it out. It's probably the highest note in Ayu's range, but not a high note. She's an alto, like most female pop singers, and it's around Eb5 where the alto range just starts to get uncomfortable. A true alto can still extend a few pitches higher, though, which actually makes that strained note in "Connected" a little disappointing, if anything.

I always thought those notes at the end of Kanariya were rather high xD;... much higher than the notes on connected lol

IMO, I don't think that "strong", is the right term to describe it. I'd say that Ayu's voice is more delicate and beautiful. Sometimes it comes out as a squeek, but now that she has improved and gained more control of it, so there is less... squeek.

I don't know if she has one of the strongest voices, but it was strong enough to catch my attention the first time I heard it, enough to want me to listen to her more.

They're actually not that much higher. The note that is sustained and repeated most in that section of kanariyais an Eb5, which is actually a half-step lower than the highest note in Connected. She then quickly pops up to an F5, which is only a half-step higher than the note in Connected. The E5 in Connected and the F5 in kanariya are both very quick, though, and approached step-wise from below, which makes them easier to sing. If she suddenly belted out an F5 from nothing and sustained it for a measure or two, then it would be fair to say that Ayu has a strong range for an Alto.

I think she has an average professional singer voice.
There are times that you can tell she's just yelling with vibrato though. Like someone said previous to this: it comes and goes.

When I think of people with strong voices, I think of, like Whitney Houston, or Aretha Frankiln, maybe Celine Dion, she has a unique voice...
Ayu for me, has a voice all her own. It can be strong, or soft. She has a powerful voice when she needs to, but...sometimes, it doesn't last. I'm still kind of, on the wall on whether or not I think her voice is more powerful now than it was...I mean, everything's a lot lower now and it's harder to hit some of those old notes...but she's still awesome...It's difficult to say lol...
