There is a small chance the single will have some competition on 12/16. Misia's song is the theme song to the drama Jin, which seems to be getting popular. So while Misia isn't usually a threat, the drama could boost her sales. (like a dorama did for her song Everything)

I'd like to see AVEX having to put some more work into getting Ayu another #1, however "Everything" was released in 2000 and it's first week sales were 3.5 x the sales of her previous single's first week sales.

The previous MISIA single in 2009 only sold 6k during it's initial week and 9k in total, she didn't have a single which sold more than 70k in 7 years, she'll need one hack of a strong tie-in...on top of all she has the album coming out the same day ^^

I know, I just pointed out that "Everything" was released almost 10 years ago and that even if her current sales get an equivalent boost in sales to the one that she had with "Everything" she would still sell under 50k , still the song could turn out to be extremely popular (or not) ^^

Nowadays, successful drama tie-ins boost digital sales but not so much physical sales. I don't think Misia will outsell Ayu on Oricon. On iTunes and on Hot 100 Japan thought there's a bigger possibility...

^ Well, there are a lot of examples of songs from artists who are considered past their prime or who are total newbies on the scene that end up scoring big hits because of drama tie ins. It all just depends on how popular the drama is and how tied into it the song is.

In general I agree. But look at Ichibu to Zenbu - that song sold very well physically (much better than B'z last several singles, in fact it even outsells their numbers from 2003/2004) and it is likely because of the Buzzer Beat tie in.

Anyways, I don't really see Misia as a threat (especially now that I know about the album.)

Then the competition might be pretty dead, I didn't know the MISIA's single is a re-cut and the song is going to be on the album as well.
Most people would get the album (and I wonder if it could mean a competition to Namie if the tie-in is going to be that strong. Also the drama has to have really high ratings and a lot of people need to get interested in the song in order to buy both the album and single and it will be hard to sell the single but probably her record label thinks she can sell well with both, more money.

MISIA definitely won't outsell Ayumi. At least not physically, though maybe not in anything. >_>' MISIA hasn't been really big in a while now.

There's no way Misia is going to outsell Ayu. She's very talented, and I like her very much, but her physical sales are very low (last album a bit over 100K, average single 10K), so even with a major drama tie in she's wayyy past her prime (unfortunately...).

Sad, but true. I also like MISIA (she has one of the most amazing lung power of any singer, dang...). But I doubt she'll ever be able to sell an album much past 200 again. :\

That person is right - Masahiko Kondo is releasing a single on 12/13 to commemorate his 30th anniversary. He is one of the most famous Johnny's ever in Japan. I'm not sure when the last time he released a single was though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masahiko_Kondo

to me, the amount of photoshop is rarely the problem. it's the expressions on her covers that annoy me sometimes. they can photoshop her all they want and it can still be a great cover as long as she isn't making a weird expression.

Same for me. I'm plenty used to lots of Photoshopping for nearly everybody famous nowadays. So that's fine, even if there's more than what's needed. For me, even the most ungodly amount of Photoshopping, makeup/airbrushing, or even the worst choice of clothing is bearable most of the time. It's whenever somebody makes a monkey face or something that completely ruins it.
