I'm the exception again then, cause I rarely change my mind with her. For a single song maybe, but never for a full album.
For example I seriously thought WARNING was missing something with first listen, that omph. But then it clicked with me after some time. On the other hand A One was a rather uninteresting album for me and still is.

^Sometimes it goes the other way round to me too... There are some albums I really loved when out that I don't care about anymore.

^ I think it has to do with overplaying an album/song so much to the point it bores you lol
Party Queen was everything to me when it came out but i barely listen to any songs from it anymore because i overplayed it

Can overplaying change your mind permanently?
Cause I know I can overplay songs I love to the point I don't want to listen to them anymore, too. But only for some time.

I overplayed plenty of songs and I still haven't gotten tired of it.

Me too, and I probably never will.
The more I listen, the more I like it. ![]() |

For me I usually like Ayu's new releases. Then Party Queen happened and it was the first time I heard something by Ayu I didn't like. I grew distant from her during this time. But all the love and again stuff brought me back. I like Colours but I'm still glad that's over. I didn't want Ayu to become an edm diva. Made in Japan is the only album that I liked right away but now it is one of the least listened too. Sometimes I forget those songs exist. But the arena tour was wonderful.

That was the case for me when Made In Japan was released. I can still stan for FLOWER , Mad World , Breakdown , SURVIVOR those four songs were the ones that I listened often. But I came to realize that A One was a better album overall even though I considered it a snoozefest when released sans few songs. Oh and yeah Out of Control was then and still is the best track from that album for me

When I started JPop in 2005, Kumi and Namie were everything. A friend listend to Ayu and I hated her voice, but STEP you then was so great i could not resist and today I love everything. Some of the recent albums need more time to click with me though, but I guess that is okay.
I actually think it is very natural for music that is not composed to be an instant hit to take a few listens. Also I already have the Ayu songs for my life (like STEP you) and everything she does now is just a nice addition to her catalogue for me, with some new tracks I can love in-between. Thats why I don't get when people get mad about certain songs or albums.

I overplay Ayu songs quite a lot but they still have that same effect to me they did initially. fairyland, Born To Be...., etc... all still amazing.

When I overlay songs and am not in the mood for them anymore, I just take them out of rotation for while until the magic is back.
I never get tired of And Then for long though. That song deserves so much more appreciation imo. |

I understand the juxtaposition of the subject matter (a party girl who is seemingly only concerned about fun times and drinking against cheerful music) but the music is just very... strange? It was an odd choice. Lyrically it’s an album that I can appreciate but sonically, it’s confusing. It has no consistent sound. And sure, (miss) understood doesn’t while being hailed as one of the best but I don’t think that any of the good tracks on Party Queen are on par with the worst song on (miss) understood. I also remember Timmy being messy on Twitter about the criticisms on the cover (basically calling the fans dumb for not “getting it”) and then throwing a “I was drunk lol” non-apology and that soured the album for me. |

I don't have a problem with the covers, in fact I like them. I just don't like the songs.
And I don't like that Timmy at all. He thinks he's very important. :/ |

I also get that vibe from him. Timmy should just stay behind the scenes.
I miss when it was just Ayu and her trusted Yo-chan and Enrique. Princess Yoko and Peco. Of course Shuya as well. ![]() |
