It doesn't change much. Lots of artist have the same title. Example: Ashlee & Britney: Shadow.

no i definitely dont think its copying. i think its just a few similar notes, like i get that feeling from ELT's looking back on you love and Be Prepared from The Lion King. I LOVE HOPE or PAIN, right now its my fav song on the album and the style reminds me a little of No way to say. i didnt mean it sounds the same in a negative way, i was just shocked that anyone else heard the weird connection i made lol. yys113 is right, its just the first couple of notes, then it totally changes

I noticed the similarity as soon as I heard the song. It's kind of distracting actually. Still a lovely song, though.

In her TIME interview, notice Ayumi mentiones:

"...Joan Osborne. I loved her song in [the movie] Vanilla Sky, so I bought the soundtrack but it wasn't on it. I asked everyone about it, and finally my friend in Hawaii told me who it was."

I'm pretty sure the song played in the movie was "What If God Was One Of Us?" Most likely, Ayumi spoke with the song writer and said something like, "Hey, I really like this song and I'd like to make a song that has a similar sound and feel."

Just my guess.

oh god! my jaws dropped when i heard the close similarity. i love stacie too! but can any one with the ' what if god was one of us' (pardon me if i had typed the title wrongly) song upload the song?

"One of us" is an amazing song, but I didn't recognise the similarities when I first heard HOPE or PAIN, I'll see if I can see it next time I listen to it.
