So I think Ayu's staff have just given up on translating TA entries...there are like at least 5 that still haven't been translated.

Me too but I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t even dare hope for classic winter releases from ayu. I hated You were..., Zutto..., and that last travesty (although I can take it in small doses). I’m just so beyond grateful for the amazing winter releases she does have, because they never ever get old for me. Every time I press play on them, it’s like the first time all over again, and I can be happy with that.

No way to say is one of those songs that I absolutely loved when I first heard it but then... I dunno if I listened to it too much or if I just grew out of that sort of sound but now I really... don't 'hate' it per-se... just never listen to it. Ever. And skip it when it comes on random. And skip it when it comes on the CD when I listen to A Complete in the car. And skip it when I watch old lives. And skip it when it starts to play in my head. I wish I liked it--it's not like it's a bad song, no, it's very good--but I just don't like it anymore. At all.

I only listen to it when there is snow on the ground so I think it has helped keep it fresh. Along with the other winter tracks. And also, I absolutely hated it for some reason for like 2 years. I never listened to the full version cause I hated how it sounded in the CM so much.

I live in OR, we get plenty of rain but not much snow xD I'll try listening to it during a snowy day, though. Maybe listening to it at the right place at the right time will shed some light on it. Personally I like listening to Close to You during the winter times. Any other time of year that song does nothing for me but during winter, on a peaceful white night, it's perfect. When I lived in AZ as a teenager, we got a terrible snowstorm and I was snowed in by myself for two days because my parents were in Phoenix at the time and couldn't get home at the fault of the weather. I was a bit freaked. I was high in the mountains, secluded, lost electricity, wasn't all that stocked up on food, and every time I called the phone company they couldn't give any sort of indication when the power would be back on. So I had nothing else to do but listen to my iPod and watch the snow fall. Close to You came on and for five minutes I wasn't worried. It was really peaceful, actually. Everything just... fit. Falling snow. White mountainside. A still wind. Fire cackling in the hearth. (Still didn't get electricity until afternoon the next day and my butt was frozen to the seat I was on, but whatever.) Even now, near ten years later, when it snows, especially at night, I try to recreate that moment. Turn off the lights, light a fire, turn on Close to You and watch the snow fall. Sounds cheesy, I know, but that's what's music is for, I suppose, creating memories even just for yourself.

... I just realized this had nothing to do with what we all were talking about but this just came to mind so I'd thought I'd share. Sorry for the blubbering. Listening to and/or talking about Ayu's old music gets me reminiscent I suppose! xD

I love this story!! I mean it must of been a scary experience but the moment that was created for you and the music is beautiful. I do “corny” stuff like that all the time. Actually Close to you is one I try not to listen to until Christmas Eve, and the moment it fit really perfectly for me once was when I was out walking after it had just snowed and it was all glittery and fresh on the ground. The night was so still and I walked past a church nearby and outside it had the nativity scene set up and all these little Christmas lightup figures as decoration (the shape of two white deer made up entirely of lights, etc). It was so perfect, and the church has a huge bell tower and so it really fit perfectly given that the bells play a prominent role in the arrangement of Close to you. Before that I think I hated the song, lol.

Last year I listened to it on Christmas night after all the festivities died down. I was staying at my moms for Christmas and she just built like a log cabin home and there’s a little log guest house. I walked outside to settle down and stood outside the guest house and gazed at the house all lit up, the lights reflecting off the untouched snow. Christmas tree and lights visible through the windows. And the night was completely still. It was beautiful.

I love stories like that too! Isn't it awesome how music can really change the way we look at things?

I also personally love to listen to GREEN when Autumn begins. In my neighborhood, before the rain hits, there's leaves everywhere and when I'm going out for my morning walk, crisp blue sky, leaves red, brown, gold, yellow, falling from the sky, with no one else around, the song is just perfect. Absolutely perfect for me. I always have to stop myself from trying to dance or sing along when that chorus hits. Honestly I love that song so much I would've bought the single (I don't buy singles. Just albums.) but it was coupled with Days.

I. Hate. Days.

Woah.

Was just watching a Cantonese fashion thing in Japan for "Cawaii" girls featuring Eva Cheung from Hong Kong and they played a good bit of LOVE 'n' HATE with the lyrics and '1...2...3...' in it. Larine Tang was also in it. They were doing a fashion show with a lot of Avril's Hello Kitty playing.

The show may have been Queen of DNA?

Finally, I'm listening to WORDS all the way through. I listened to the first half of it a few times and it left no impression.

But I actually really like it.

I just love rediscovering old Ayu songs. So good.

It's magical going back to an album you hadn't listened to in a while and having that sort of feeling that you do when you meet an old friend again.

beautiful story <3

back in France, I used to listed to Days and You Were... when it was snowing outside, so nostalgic <3

also during those lonely cold winter nights, Moon is surely my favorite, ayu's raw fragile voice in that song always bring tears and feel like hugging her straight away <3

I would go to war for Days. I love that you can feel so clearly where the track is going. It gives the sense that “they REALLY nailed this; I can’t imagine it being any other way.” Every note that follows the previous, and precedes the next, makes complete sense, and just feel so “right.” It’s like you guys don’t like a polished track.

Also, I would not say Days is the Kana track - it’s way too grand for that. It operates at 100% and Kana’s tracks tend to operate at around 70; that would be “Zutto..,” because it’s very dry and very forgettable. I could think of a million ways to edit and improve Zutto..., but I couldn’t fathom changing Days in the slightest. It’s like everything just fell into place, and that doesn’t happen with Ayu’s music anymore, or very much at least.

I get that same sense with No way to say, momentum, etc. So it baffles me how Days can be criticized for being “formulaic” or “predictable” when it’s the thing I love the most in this track as well as older hits by ayu.
