? Why do we have to idolize anyone? And in what way? For Britney, I would never idolize her as a person, but as far as in the history of pop, she's an idol...and that's not really something negotiable. Same as with Ayu and Japanese pop. Lady Gaga to me is different...she's not really original or has done anything spectacular for the music scene...why would anyone idolize her?

But anyway...I personally think Ayu vs. Lady Gaga is a much better comparison...

except that Gaga probably kicks ayu's butt as far as being an artist goes. Maybe that's why we shouldn't do it? Because she actually is an artist, while ayu is some kind of weird mix of whatever...guess it's not very fair.
---
I personally don't see how Brit Brit is any luckier than Ayu...and I don't think anyone was trying to say Brit Brit was a good singer/songwriter lol that's just laughable.

Btw...when did britney get that voice...you know...her like...voice that she's always singing in? It's horrible...but it's like...she forces it or something..I don't think she always sang that way.

AYU!!!
But honestly, this is no competition. They are equally awesome with some pluses and minuses here n there. Why bother comparing them? It is like saying what's better between apples and oranges. They are in, imo, same huge, equally awesome, league (though personally i think one of the league was too proud of themselves you have to use, at least most of the lyrics, in english and some other approved european languages)

alternafan000 pretty much said it all.

I think that this video pretty much shows how talented Britney is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ak1cpi74RM

Britney is just a mediocre girl who got lucky.

^ She did have a great voice as a child so its surprising how much her voice changed and got worse. Also at the beginning of her career, she did sing live more often and it wasn't THAT bad.

The video is a good example though of what head set mics actually sound like without lipsynching or editing.

I know she used to have a decent/good singing abilities I simply can't see why would people admire a drug addict, who obviously isn't THAT talented and as Jade said once "talent doesn't really make you an artist."

A DRUG ADDICT? Please check your facts before you speak, idiot. There's no evidence of her EVER taking drugs and all her drug tests have come clean. So STFU

This doesn't prove ANYTHING!
It was recorded while she was lipsyncing. Obviously she wasn't TRYING to sound good, she was just singing along with the lipsync and dancing her ASS off in the process. If she's actually focussing on her vocals you can see she can sing VERY well. Point in case: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bblLYvEEU4

Well, I suggest you check some of her 2005-2007 public appearances then
Her attitutes back then were a clear proof of drugs (call them alcohol, pills or whatever) consumption, like many doctors and other specialists stated

^ i'm surprised you would take a youtube video as proof :S ~! lol sorry I just don't trust random videos made on youtube... especially since the video was edited by 2 people who seem to have amazingly gotten her "original" microphone sound >_>! I Don't think we'll ever to find out how britney sings live now tbh, but in the mickey mouse club and star search, I thought she could sing so thats why I assume she can sing. I think her singing talent doesn't dissapear just because she's too lazy to use it live.

I don't see how Ayu was not lucky for her career too. She was picked up a karaoke bar lol. I know ayu has DEFINITELY taken a more of an artistic control of her career but I think Britney is an artist because she has been involved in her music no matter what. She did co-write Everytime which did really well. I just think its very unfair to judge her artistry by her personal life and by the fact she "cant sing" which I feel that there is no proof of.

and I think attacking other people on the forum for their opinion is silly and calling threads idiotic pointless. If it is so idiotic then why do you take your time to post in it? Will your opinion even matter in this "idiotic" thread. And how is Kang shallow for liking Britney better? I really don't see the shallowness in that :S

0) An artist is someone who CREATES, Britney is but a mare performer.
1) Comparing Britney to Ayu is idiotic imo. You would usually COMPARE things that are similar in a way.
2) And you're right, I went across the line and edited the post. Sorry

Are you aware that people get co-writing/producing credits for just sitting in the studio in the writing/producing process?

Almost everyone can sing to a certain extent, some people are just not good at it People who actually write their songs do in a way reflect their personal life and thoughts in their lyrics, so I think that her personal life is actually pretty important.

^ well I guess its an opinion but I mean I feel its unecessary to say stuff like that because it offends the creator of the thread, I see what u mean by they're different, but hey a forum is just for fun right, we can discuss these things as long as its not offensive. Like I mean its just an opinion. The only reason why I'm always posting in this therad is that I feel people ignore the fact that britney is an artist.

I assume their ideas have to be inputed into it also, because if what ur stating is true then why doesn't britney do it for EVERY SONG. And only a few of them. Like I assume there has to be input/help in creating a song if ur going to label it CO-written and co-produced. I'm jsut a person who gives credit to people if they've been stated for the credit :S because if you look at it from that point of view, we can say that ayu's rainbow album had almost none of her input in it because she co-composed most of the songs. I say if the credit is there for someone then they probably deserve it. And plus Britney Did appear on BoA's album too. I assume she HAD to have musical input/ideas there. Why would she randomly just show up to sit and take credit on BoA's song.

Sorry I'm not trying to troll you or anything, its just I guess we have opposing opinions no matter what. Oh well thats what discussions are for as long as we don't start fighting lol.

@SunshineSlayer: thats true too I guess, but then doesn't that mean her voice deteriorated? Just like Ayu? lol Ayu doesn't sound nearly as good as she did before too, but that doesn't mean they both suck now lol. AS you age unfortunately your voice gets worse I guess you could say britney's voice weakened faster than ayu's voice.

It' ok, our opinions just tend to be very different. I don't think Look Who's talking has an artistic value and I really don't think it's an argument to show that Britney is a talented song writer.

Oh and once again sorry if I was mean to anyone, that wasn't my intention, I might have said some very stupid things.

A LOT of people have much better singing voices as children than as adults. Peoples voices will change as they get older and a lot depends on how well they take care of their vocal chords.

njanjayrp: I agree. I don't idolize anyone that has reprehensible behavior in their personal lives. I still like some of Britney's old songs, but I could never idolize her or really like her as a person.

I don't think Gaga is much as a artist as most pop singers... the only thing that make her more an artist than most is the fact the she has a college art degree... Even so, this don't make anyone an artist either...

And I think as well that we should not keep idoliziing people x,x

Ayumi cause... I don't really like Britney as a person based on what she shows in the media although I do feel bad for her and can almost understand why she has done the things she has// I mean, being in front of the whole world 24/7?? Ayumi has never had to deal with that so I'm not sure if they could be compared conduct wise.

I still prefer Ayu anyways though, while I sympathize for Britney.

I see a lot of people calling Ayu and Brit products and all and even though the music industry markets them as such, I don't think of them that way. Products are things that sit on shelves and collect dust until someone goes to buy them (for example, an Ayu or Brit CD), but the ladies themselves are people.

And it's hard for me to separate who they are from their music. If I don't like you, I'm not listening to you, no matter how catchy your music is. This is pretty much the biggest reason I stayed away from Britney in the past (along with other personal reasons), it is only until she recently got herself back together that I decided to give her music a try.

As I said before, I prefer Ayu, because I love Ayu... and I don't mean the music. Sure I've never met her, but the persona she gives off is far more attractive to me than Brit's. I also think they are both music artists because according to the definition they both fall under that category. I just appreciate Ayu's artistry much much much more.

Ayumi, definitvely. I will not say anything about their vocals, because neither of them have the best voice I have ever heard, but Ayumi is much more talented when it comes to writing and composing music. But, like I said in another topic, I don't hate Britney's music, she has some listenable songs. :-)
