Ayumi Song Titles

Why are most of Ayumi's Song Titles in English. I know there is at least one japanese title but why is like 95% of the titles in enlgish?

I think the arabic letters/english words makes the songs more commercial. It doesn't only happen to ayu, a great deal of japanese artists prefer to use english titles for their songs while others pretty much prefer the japanese words (shiina ringo for example).

So Ayu has the "English" appeal and appears cooler? Not sure.

Ayumi is not the only one with "this"

I belive it can be a part of Avex's commercial politics
maybe Ayumi herself wanted "this":
it's unusual-Japanease songs with English titles-
getting attention?!
I dunno

Ayu herself prefers the titles to be in English.
The only exceptions I could find are Hana, Hanabi, Hanabi ep. II, and kanariya.

^ True, but it is neat to see that the titles are in English letters, not Japanese characters.

That song (Sotsugyou Shashin) isn't hers. She's covering it, I guess to fit the ballad mood, and to give fans a reason for buying it other than RAINBOW.

I like that her song titles are in English and romaji, otherwise I wouldn't be able to read the back of her CDs to see what song I'm listening to.

I guess it's trendy to use English in music. A lot of Dutch artists sing in English, even if they only release their music in the Netherlands. It doesn't make sense, but everyone does it.

And Satsogyou Sashin of course, though it's a cover.

Indeed, there is some point in this. English is a language that's universally understood and sounds good, which is why so many non-native English speakers still adopt it in their music. The Dutch music market is an excellent example, as probably 90% of this is in English - leave for some 'levenslied' singers and some pop/rock bands.

However, this is somewhat different of course. It's merely the titles that's in English with Ayu, not the songtitles (leave for a few lines here and there). It's because of a similar reason though, I'd say. English sounds cool to Japanese ears, so using English as a Japanese artist just makes your music seem more attractive. So basically, it's mostly commercial reasons, though I can imagine that it's also a case of pure aesthetics.

It's funny how her song titles are never written in Japan or are english, but before RAINBOW, she never used english in her songs I prefer her not to use english in her songs... except STEP you, Bold & Delicious, Ladies Night... the catchy ones!

Koda Kumi is starting to use english titled loves too... all of her 12 singles were english except for ima sugu hoshii (a cover). KAMEN much follows HANABI... coincidence?

Anywho, Ayu has original japanese titles which she translates into english, but sometimes the translation steers away from the original. I.e. evolution should be era, but evolution sounds cooler and still works... it's probably because Ayu's a very fashionable person and english is very "in" for pop music

Because ENGLISH is an international language.
Ayu's using english titles to attract more of American fans, I think.
not just Ayu, other Japanese artists.
Even though, she's not willing to spread wings to the American Market.
I think it's a strategy for Japanese artists to sell their records in American market without publishing themselves throughout America directly.

and further more, Japan's anime are so popular outside ASIA and Ayu's singing the anime's theme song so the overseas fans may easily recognize the titles & songs by looking at the english titles.

English is the second-most spoken language in the world with approximately 354 million speakers, so that's understandable. As a matter of fact, it is second to Mandarin Chinese, spoken by approximately 915 million people.
