For the first time in a long time..

For the first time in a long time I walked into a normal American CD store, and walked out with an album in hand. God knows how long it's been, at least a year, but I finally found an album which I could consider worthy of my $13.99.

"What did you get?", you ask. "What possibly could have been worth the drive over to the store, the gas used, the effort of getting dressed and bathing? Which album was worthy enough to justify the time, effort and money???"

The answer: Coldplay's "A Rush of Blood to the Head"

Not technically American. British, actually. But it was published, printed, and released in America. It did win a grammy. That counts for me. I'll consider it a hybrid, whatever. Mostly British, but available and popular in America.

I haven't listened to it all yet, but there are three really good songs I heard prior to my purchase: "Politik", "The Scientist", and "Clocks". Three very good songs.

I've heard nothing but good things about this album. I haven't listened to it all yet, but right now my complaint is that there are only 11 tracks. But hey, quality over quantity any day, so that may not matter in the end. So I'm off to listen...

The remixes of "Clocks" were being banged out in clubs earlier this year. That and their "Yellow" song from a few years ago is about all I know of Coldplay.

Last album I picked up in a store was Delerium's Chimera. Before that it was Tiësto's Nyana. Neither are American artists though. Nettwork deserves props for bringing that stuff to the states.

Nice choice ashley.

Although I rarely hear their songs but from my opinion they are unique from other bands.

Last one I bought was the new Spock's Beard album. It amuses me how everyone here seems to think all American music is bad. But if you use bands like Good Charlotte or Stink 182 as a barometer, then I guess you could see why you would think all American music is bad. But you can't always go by eMpTyV and Clear Channel radio garbage.

Coldplay is an excellent band! No! Beyond excellent --- sexcellent! (copyright Sergeant Krap)

I have a copy of "Parachutes".... though my desire to buy "A Rush of Blood..." is locked in a bitter battle with my cheapskate-ness

I can't believe that there's actually someone else that has heard of Spock's Beard. They play some great music. The last cd I bought was the Gods and Generals soundtrack. After seeing the movie (now one of my top five favorites) I knew I had to get it.

I friggin' love Spock's, man. They are one of my favorite bands. Their album 'V' is a masterpiece. Even their weakest album 'Day For Night' is ten times better than most bands's strongest albums. Actually there are probably very few prog-rock/prog-metal bands that I haven't heard of.
