Actually, all this smells like a big publicity stunt (Eason making his comments about Ayu). He knew the effect his words would have, no matter how civil, and he knew what the HK press is like. The timing was perfect and he knew just who to target.
British-born or not, this seems less like him "wanting to express an opinion" and more of him "wanting a bit of publicity".
