Well it's true what truehapiness said ... she thinks about her career more as a blessing than a curse but that's because she resigned to be a star. Please don'T misinterpret that, she still loves it to sing and let her feelings speak to her songs but I think her current lifestyle is was she ever wanted and that's why her old songs had more life in in as her current. she lost her muse, the sadness in her life. that's why her songs aren't that emotionally anymore. As a matter of fact, singers, whether in japan or anywhere, write their best songs and perform their best concerts after a break down. the emotions involved in getting back to your career are so huge and everything. that's why I think, just a little off-topic, that britneys new album is the best albums she had ever done.

Well, my stand about the whole "Ayu fans being demanding" issue is that, yup, I agree that fans are being demanding, especially Ayu fans. I think it's ok that people don't like certain Ayu songs (since it doesn't suit their personal tastes) but when people start making demands like "I want her to do another evolution!" or "I want the next song to be like Dearest!", I think that's getting ridiculous.

Like it or not, let's face it, it's impossible for Ayu to produce a song that EVERYONE loves. I think fans need to start evaluating Ayu's song more absolutely, like is the song really that good instead of basing it off relative scales. It's rather ridiculous to be saying that a new Ayu song sucks if you've only heard it once. Give each song a chance, and if it really doesn't fit your style, yup, it's fine. It's only problematic when fans start dissing each other off.

Regarding glitter/fated, I'm absolutely in love with it. I seriously think it's one of the freshest material Ayu has produced in recently years. She's moving in a new direction, and as fans, I think we should move along too. No point always holding onto those past Ayu hits when the Ayu that has sung those songs has already moved onto a new direction. It's not like she's changing to do rap or visual kei. It's still Ayu, but it's Ayu that has matured and changed.

I think a lot of the trouble with Ayu fans is that she's done all the genres, so there's basically always going to be a song to compare another song with.

Even though people say that fans usually don't hail for a new "-insert popular Ay u track here-", that's all I see from most users here. "I'd like a new July 1st!" "alterna! AYU PLEASE ALTERNA!" and so on..

The new songs sound boring w/e ppl say. Dang, the previews sound amazing to me, but hearing them in full...kinda disappointing.

Especially fated. I love how they build the chorus from silence to climax in the trailer. But now, they blend it together with the verse/bridge.

Hopefully the PV will change my mind about the new songs. :/

well said ... it's not that I don't like her new style, it's just, compared to old songs, like who... or a song for xx, too different. It's okay to move on and experimentalize but as a star, wich ayu def. is, you should be loyal to your roots and always look back because what you did in past could be your future.

Personally I think her singles have been relatively weak since from Heaven until now, but I still love her album tracks and I go to her concerts constantly. So does not loving this single somehow mean I'm bad mouthing her or don't like her now or make me less of a fan?
I wasn't talking about him, I was talking generally about people who sadly, hate ayu, they don't have to like her but there's no reason for hating her.

I'm an ayu fan nearly 4 years and most of the time I'm highly impressed with her work and I find most of it amazing and with high and different qualities.
I never get tired of her even a bit, I would lie if I say I do.
I love A LOT ayu's old style and my most fav album of her is LOVEppears, but I love the newer styles as well, ayu can't be the same dark ayu as she was or everyone would get bored and that I would call repetitive.

I agree A LOT with that, ayu fans are really demanding, if the songs aren't fitting their styles or what they expected it to be they'll dislike it and blame ayu's style going worst.
(Well, I think that since Bold & Delicious that was alright it's getting better and better to being WOW).
I find it pretty subjective because no one can't like everything ayu does now and no one has to dislike everything ayu does now.
I think that if ayu was repetitive and her songs were low quality, I'm sure she couldn't get such a high sales as she get because Japanese likes quality and fresh stuff, even fans and if they don't get it they're going away.
now you can't compare ayu's sales to past years, and of course now they'll be lower unless ayu comes up with something that we never heard her doing before and sound really good, but I'm satisfied with what she is doing now.
I don't need to be demanding, and even if sometimes I do I thank ayu a lot for fulfilling my wishes.

I don't really agree with that, BUT I agree with that in the way that ayu could get some inspiration or do some continuism to her past work.
I disagree in the way that she doesn't need at all to get her songs from the pasts newer (I mean new songs that sound like her old style) because if she would do that (well one time is ok) people would be get bored, instead of getting forward with her career and style she got back backwards and stuff.

ayu has to do fresh and new material in order to succeed.
glitter/fated are not low quality at all.
Fresh...glitter is the summer song poppy song, it's expected even before hearing it it won't be as fresh and Japanese people LOVE summer poppy songs.
fated IS fresh, it's a ballad, but what ballad sound in the way fated go? and the instruments?

ayu can't make us ALL satisfied...

Thank you SunshineSlayer, that is exactly how I feel. I never stated I hated Ayumi, I love "her" (at least I love Ayumi Hamasaki the product). And that's why I get so sad when I don't like her material, because somehow I believe that she could do so much better (but perhaps she can't). My personal music taste is on a completley new level now, I'm not satisified with Ayu or any other similar Jpop anymore.

I just wanted to say goodbye (but I didn't get a nice response, it seems I can't write anyhting negative about Ayu in this forum without being attacked in someway. It's just my personal opinion, why does it have to get to you so badly?). I'm sorry.

^Don't be sorry, you can say negative stuff, and I wasn't talking about you along people that hate ayu, they usually bash her and immature (or hate all of her stuff and just come here to say only negative things about her).

It's fine that you said what you said, don't be sorry.
You don't have to like ayu anymore of course, but I think people don't know what people that don't like ayu anymore have to do in her forums at all (unless it's other artists that he/she still likes thread) xD.

I didn't mean new lyrics old sound ... I meant old lyrics and new sounds ... her old lyrics where ... well ... special ...her new stuff is just to get money ... at least that's what I feel.

I still love AYU and always will ... but she lost some of her creativity. Anyway, snow_drop it's the sound that counts and not the words

^I really don't think it's only for money, if it was only for money then avex and ayu would pull the stuff you said and tell ayu to write lyrics that looks like her older ones in order to get really high sales to get all people connected again.
I think that ayu doesn't care the drops in sales from past years is pretty proving the nothing she does is for the money. If she wanted she could easily get it high, but she is just natural with her work and do what she feels like, as she need.
She wouldn't invest a lot of money on PVs and stuff specailly for her fans to enjoy if she would do it for the money.

If she would do stuff now like kumi (a lot of releases, compilations, limited editions, first presses, photobooks and stuff) so I would say it's for the money I don't like how avex treat to kumi to just earn money from her, though I love kumi's music a lot, but ayu's career is more of a singer, and hikaru's as well for example. kumi's career is a career that gives me to think she just sings for the money. Now I don't say kumi sings for the money (I hope so) but her career pretty gives that image.

those that just started Lovin Ayu is a gd thing...coz this single really is gd!
just like when i started Ayu, my first single was STEP you/is this LOVE? which was also fantastic...

and yea, Ayu cant satisfy everyone but certainly MOST people, who love her consistency in her style...and i doubt Ayu would stray away from rock and happy pop too much...so it's sad those people can appreciate...

smbd said Ayu so far has tried all the genres
I disagree
she hasn't...
not that I want hip hop or R&B-nooo, Namie rules here
but mayeb smth freshy
it would be awesome if she created her own new genre...

mmm, I don't agree that Ayu's now working just for the money
in the interviews she said that when she'll be not interested in music she'll straightly go away from the scene...
and if it was so doubt Avex would keep her than
they have many young artists to put up

Both song are good, but they don't really stick out in my mind all that much. They will have to grow on me.

I don't think it's a good idea for ayu to do songs she's done since she isn't in the same emotional state as before.

Her current songs are great and HAPPY. Yeah sad ayu was great but this new ayu is also great.(lol great a lot)

Well, I know at least I didn't expect anything. I didn't like either preview that much - I actually ended up liking the full versions more than I thought I would because the previews really didn't grab me at all.

^I know how you feel ^_^.

btw the comments that are like "I thought it will be sound better" "I thought it will sound elseway" are exactly like "I expected it to be for my taste" "I thought it will be ............" etc. are good examples for expectations and "I would want to hear what I wanted it to be or else I don't like it!".
People are less accepting than before and that's why most just getting bored, high expectations and high demandings.
