Of course A Best sold more than Secret, it is a Best album after all. But by Best album standards as well as with how much promotion it got, people expected higher sales. And the single and origina album sales since B&D have not been stellar by Ayu standards - several other female artists have outsold her, which until recently was not the case.

I don't see how if someone complains about a song it is considered whining though.
That's like saying that every time someone overly praises a song that they should be called "blind followers." I don't think people would like that either.

Like I've said, I actually LIKE the songs - they just aren't my favorite and I don't expect anything big to come of this single. My main issue here has always been that only positive opinions are accepted and only the negative ones need to be defended.(I remember having this same discussion when Blue Bird was released.^_^) To me, those that can see weaknesses in Ayu's music aren't any less fans than the next person. I'd rather see a debate than a thread full of nothing but praise that think Ayu couldn't do any wrong or any better than what she is currently doing.

Yeah, she has too many songs with that structure, but there are ways of masking it so that it doesn't seem like they are all that way - but for some reason it stands out like a sore thumb in her summer songs for me.

I stopped listening to American music since I started listening to jpop, now I only listen to jpop and some songs in English and that's all.

glitter and fated got 50/50 on my itunes now ^_^ as it seems I listen to them together (until the single will be out and I'll listen to Secret as well).
Though I listened Secret album and ELT's Every Best Ballads album today.

You mean by ayu's past standarts.
ayu can't keep selling as she used to through all of her career.
Like any other artist. What she can do is to save decently or sometimes get a bit higher than usual, but of course she won't pop up a million (for album) suddenly or 400,000-700,000 like her past singles.
Her standarts are going lower and meanwhile she does pretty good for those own standarts. The situation could be worst, 'cause if she wouldn't keep fans her sales would be exteremly lower and Secret would sell like 200,000 and A BEST 2 albums in the good case 500,000 or 400,000 roundies.
With all the circumstances ayu does pretty well and she is still one of the best selling artist, and of course it's good to see her single sales going up since Bold & Delicious and specially A BEST 2 which is divided to two albums that both sold that well and even more than Secret even if they are compilations I think compilations might getting less popular than what they used to be in Japan though some still succeed with them. ayu succeeds to maintain.
Don't forget that both A BEST 2 are really expensive as well, if they were a lot cheaper it might've got them at least somwhere near (miss)understood.

(gah, sorry for double post I thought I did it on the last one..)

Yes, that's what I said, by Ayu standards. And in my previous posts I talked about reasons for why and what could be tried to make it better (like the Step You example that I gave) So I don't want to have to repeat everything since we will just end up going in circles anyways.

But aren't you afraid that her sales may continue to get lower if she continues to follow the same pattern? That's why even though I don't love B&D, I at least RESPECT it because she did take a risk and try something different, only in that case the gamble didn't pay off.

I believe that giving a summer song in summer is quite good, would be so cool giving a winter ballad or something like that at that time and I think that's the thing that at this time will bring good sales (hence why glitter would be a good choice of ayu and avex to release it in summer along with a good ballad). On the last summer single, well both last summer singles had no ballads at all.

Bold & Delicious isn't one of ayu's best songs but I like it because it sounds groovy and something ayu would'nt casually do.
I think that one of the reasons for its low sales is that less than a month people could get the songs and PVs on the new album (that legally was out on 25th December and people could buy it) and people kinda guessed they'll be on the album, there were already (miss)understood announcements and news.

that was a very general statement...yu can have yur own thoughts on music, but calling every American pop song not only criticizes music, but also generalizes an individual's creativity...there are millions of original pop songs out there, it's just a lot of the popular ones that are repetitive. next time yu decide to label a type of music, be sure yu know what yu are talking about...

i thing the point of this thread was lost 50 posts ago...this is to talk about the two new songs, not about her sales declining. hence the title: "Thoughs: glitter/fated" i don't believe it says "Thoughts: Recent sales"

anyway, to actually BE on topic:

i was wondering if the single is a double a-side...i missed the info on the single...i like fated better than glitter, and i was wondering if there's gonna be a PV

^You're right, I'm sorry for my part.

Anyway it's Double A-side, glitter & fated are main equally.
glitter is Zespri CM theme song, fated is "kaidan" movie theme song.
Both songs will be in ONE short film PV that was shot in Hong Kong and ayu is there along with Shawn Yue a Chinese rising star which is the single's DVD.
(there's CD only and CD+DVD) The single will have Secret (Original version I think) which is Confessions of Pain movie theme of the japanese version (ayu's version) as well.
It's out on 18th, July, next month.

hoH~
i think we'll just talk about glitter/fated songs not other things like ayu's previous singles/albums' sales.. etc etc....

maybe when someone makes a "thoughts.." thread like this..
there should be a special rules like,
"Do not comment on members' opinion" or
"Do no quote other members' opinion"

coz it's just a "thought.." thread...

the best thing is that..
just state ur opinion about these two new songs...for others to read..
without quoting other people's thought just that you don't agree with him/her..
just let it be...

*ohh i love every posts on this thread when it's just been created.. everybody just stated how they felt about the songs... no quoting thing*

I like both ^^ Glitter makes me happy and I wanna dance xD While Fated is like, awesome xP I love those kinds of sad rock ballad whatev type songs xD Her style seems the same but I love em ^^ I haven't been listening to Ayu so much lately so that's prolly it I really think it would be a breakthrough if she tried something jazzy though.

Yeah discussion board's aim is to encourage debates and discussion. And that's where the real essence comes out - people exchange ideas and learn from each other. Unfortunately most of the time it does not get civil here since many cannot accept each other's opinion. So thus we get a load of flame wars and cranky people.

There wouldn't be complains on ppl thoughts when they know how to be polite and say "I'm not sure I will lkie this single" or "I love Utada Hikaru" in a proper way.
Other than that, this is an AYU FORUM. Why would they come here and keep complaining bout Ayu while they don't even like more than 4 songs of her.

Generally I'm satisfied with the whole single. But when i found that the short film ayu that was shot in Hong Kong was going to be the PV of both songs, I'm ,to tell the truth , very disappointed.

People can like the songs at WOW rate and people can dislike them, let each other express themeselves and stop complaining at each other, it goes in circles.
This is what I was trying to say.

IMO, it just gets really annoying when people begin to list songs that sound similar to a new track. It's like, "Are you even trying to listen to it as something that's new? Are you trying to find flaws in it?!"

^or the song just sounds EXACTLY like her previous songs.

I mean, I showed "glitter" to some of my friends, (some of them are ayu fans, some aren't), and only one person that noticed that it's actually a new song.

Maybe because she's way...too professional? I mean she impressed us over and over from time to time....and when she release one thing that less-good than her previous hits, we criticized her quite badly.....idk.

For me and my friends glitter is one more song to dance to and enjoy it xD.
And they don't listen to jpop at all but ayu is the only one they like some of her songs (and some namie songs as well lol).

We really don't care if it's repeated or summer song or whatever, as long as it a good upbeat song and ayu is rocking into it and it sounds good we just get up and dance and having fun ^_^.
fated we heard yesterday when we went to the ending party of school at the car on a CD I burnt and one of my friend's friend wanted me to send him the song and he likes metal/hard rock..........lol I was surprised.
