What does "region-2" disc mean?

The "region 2" part. I already read the "Product Information" at CDJapan...but I still don't get it. Does it mean only certain DVD players can play the DVD or something?

I live in Brunei, but since my DVD player is a Japanese brand, can it play the DVD? Oh God, I feel silly asking this question but I am so not sure! 0_o;;

And does it only apply to DVDs at CDJapan or DVDs anywhere of that title?? Since I was thinking of asking my friend to get me Asia Tour 07 when she goes to Japan soon and things like that.

if your player is from japan, it should be programmed for region 2.

It applies to all DVDs from these countries/regions: Japan, Europe, South Africa, Greenland and the Middle East (including Egypt) unless you get any of the OS versions.

Also, if you have a PS3, I think, it can play any region. Otherwise, wherever you bought the DVD player from, is whatever the region is for that player.

Darn, I just remembered that LG isn't Japanese! 0_o. Well, then can it be played on any computer? Or laptop, like Compaq? Or does that have to be a Japanese brand as well?

Funny, I seriously never realised this at all!

Example: If you buy a Panasonic DVD-player in the US it's region 1, not region 2.

I think there's a way to change to DVD region code, but it varies from brand to brand, or you can just download the VLC media player which plays everything regardless of the region.

You can look up region hacks here: http://www.vcdhelp.com Just look for hacks and find your model. However, there isn't a hack for every dvd player.

You can use a program such as DVDIdle to play dvds from any region in the world on your computer.

You can try to hack you DVD player like said above^
or you can buy a Region Free DVD player
you can play the DVD on your computer, but be careful of what program you use cause sometimes your Computer will lock onto a single region after a certain number of times.

Now regarding Regions check you Player and see what Region it can play.
If its Region 2 than it can only play region 2
same for Region 3 and others.

The cheapest DVD players aren't region coded. So get a really crappy one for $20 and chances are it will be fine.

The brand of the DVD doesn't matter, the companies fit their players to the different markets.

As cory said, the cheapest ones are usually region free.

My laptop is LG
and I am not in region 2 (I'm in region 1)
BUT!

I was surprised to see that all my dvd's region 2 are working on my laptop
for example: I listened, on my laptop, Arena Tour 03-04
I can listen to every dvd region 2 I have

the brand doesn't determine what region it is. the region is determined on where it's sold. most countries don't sell other regions dvd players in the common electronic stores, unless you buy them online. i hacked my player, but you can also buy region free players on yesasia.com (and possibly other places...i don't know of any off the top of my head though~). btw, your avatar makes me happy

You can change your laptop's region depending on which you use the most, but only a certain amount of times. (if you live in USA/Canada, which I assume, since you said region 1)

What I said about the PS3 being region free was a lie. ^^; Only the games are region free.
