wait, so ayu actually has an ear DISEASE rather than her just blowing it out from 10 years of performing?

i mean, i thought she had a syndrome of some sort describing how her ear doesn't work if you're able to damage different parts of your ear...

did that make sense?

Are you asking if her ear was damaged because of sound exposure, thus making acoustic trauma the cause?

Well, it's very unlikely. Acoustic trauma almost always affect both ears equally, since both ears will be exposed to sound, asnd there's no way you can single one ear out to only have it exposed to sound (unless you listen to very loud sound using only one side earphone, which is not usual, and definitely not ayu's case). Both ears will get damaged that way. Also, if ayu had suffered acoustic trauma, she WOULD have taken a break from concerts, recording and performing in order to minimize the damage, which she didn't. ayu's not some suicidal psyco who will have her body severely hurt because of work. She's a workaholic, yeah, but I'm sure if her doctors had told her that she would damage her ears if she continued performing, she would most likely slow down and take care of herself. she's a vain woman, she cares about her looks and I'm sure she cares about her health too.

Also, I'm pretty sure avex is aware of occupational exposure of their professionals to ambiental polluents and that they will take the expected measures so that they won't get a lawsuit for disrespecting basic measures for occupational safety.

If it is, there's "a slight chance" it could affect the right ear too. Let's hope not though.
Thanks for the info Impact. I really hope that even is she has that disease, her right ear will be fine. I also think she said that just to make us feel she will not give up and she'll continue to sing until her last breathe (LOL that was poetical too)
Too bad that an artist like ayu has to pass through this though

Actually, japan contributes a lot to medicine with researches and new discoveries. Also, we live in a globasl world. A discovery as important as curing definite deafness wouldn't be restricted to a "certain country" specifically. We still see a lot of deaf people, and people who still use language for the deaf in important public speeches, which means a definite cure is still not promptly available.

^the way u say make me feel so sad and pathetic for ayu...sigh..

anyway ive seen an article in local magazine introducing a hearing tool to wear on the ear for people who cant hear to regain back their hearing...and i think it really depends on the type of hearing loss ayu is suffering from...hopefully the one shes suffering from will have some sort of treatment...and china have a lot of traditional special treatments...and a lot of them work as i always believed...hopefully they will try to look for one for hearing loss

This device amplificates sound so that the last remaining hairy cells in the choclea can sense and interpret the sound stimullation. It's very useful in mild to moderate hearing loss. It's completely useless in people who have deep hearing loss, because even if it over amplificates the sounds, there will be nothing to be stimulated, since almost all hairy cells are already dead. By the way ayu mentioned, it seems like she has lost the entire hearing of her left ear, which means, no device will work.
