I definitely prefer RAINBOW over I am... In fact GUILTY & Secret are better than I am... imo though it's my personal taste lol.

I think a lot of people like I am... because she composed more than 70% of it. [or at least assisted in doing so]~
And the songs are quite good, but people don't give her more recent works enough credit. People who say "Oh, it's all sounding the same to me!" should take a break and just listen to someone else if Ayu's sounding so repetitive :|

One day I noticed I liked RAINBOW better than I am..., and I had no idea why, because I think I am.. has more awesome songs, and the awesome songs in it are slightly better than the awesome ones in RAINBOW (IMO, it's a matter of taste really XD).
After thinking about it for a while, I think that while the tracks in I am... are wonderful individually, RAINBOW works better as a whole. I dunno why though. |

i was listening to I am.. for quite a long period of time before i started listening to RAINBOW. i guess the way the album starts is a little bit different? personally i like both...
they're suitable for different moods of the day

That's what I keep saying too. If people think ayu is repetitive, then I have no idea what to say about some other artists. |

Seriously. Ayu has 150 songs and counting in her discography, while some artists have less than half, and are already repeating themselves in their works!

RAINBOW used to be my favorite album, but I don't like it much now because I don't really like many of the songs individually. I think I am... sounds more "tied together" (or something), but that's because IMO the songs sound too similar to each other. Overall though, I like RAINBOW more because I am...'s ballads bore me to death and RAINBOW is just... colorful.

RAINBOW is one of Ayu's best albums, as far as musical craftsmanship goes. I always looked at it as I am...'s sister album: where I am... is a cohesive musical masterpiece with a raw, edgy style, RAINBOW is a cohesive musical masterpiece with a clean, polished style. It's fantastic.
I think the only thing that went wrong with it is the swiped intro to "Free & Easy". I think something original could have been composed for that without the uncredited help of Éric Serra. |

i guess Rainbow and I am...are quite ok for me...i juz can't bring myself to love them like in Duty, MY STORY, Secret and GUILTY. Even though both have their fair share of great songs, but the overall feeling the two albums give me still does not attract me...sad to say

I think I am... and rainbow was when ayu really started to use grand orchestral sounds. I like those sounds better than say Guilty which rock beats sometimes make the song sound rushed and not composed substantively. Used to like I am... more but now i like Rainbow more. So nothing went wrong with Rainbow ^^ Except maybe over and + can be done away with. I think voyage and free&easy were great singles.

It sounds cheesy but listening to RAINBOW (while under the influence...), I could sort of feel the colors of the rainbow individually! It's different but I got addicted to it after a while!

Lol, I thought RAINBOW was the most loved album XD, but RAINBOW to me, has its highs and its lows. Like some songs are better while some songs aren't as good. To me the best album though is Duty

It's funny, because I am... is my favorite Ayu album and I used to hate RAINBOW. But now, RAINBOW, which I used to think was so different from I am... now feels more like the more inventive sister of it. I think a big part of that was the fact that RAINBOW was her first copy controlled album, and since I listened to CDs on my computer, I disliked it for that reason. I also thought that Ayu's sudden use of English in her songs was jarring. But listening to it now, it seems so new and rich compared to some of her recent albums. Don't get me wrong, I've liked all of her recent releases as well, but for very different reasons. I am... and Rainbow are the height of Ayu's personal creativity in my opinion.

I think it may have something to do with her fans getting older and moving on in musical tastes. Ayu may not yet have found the perfect sound for them.
I LOVED RAINBOW I enjoy I am... too. I like her new songs, but probably not as much as her older songs...
