Difference between Normal and Re-Release?

Hi there!

As we know a few of Ayu's singles have been re-released (poker face, YOU, Trust, For My Dear..., Depend on you, WHATEVER, LOVE ~Destiny~, TO BE).

My question:
What is the difference between the normal versions and the re-release version?

and could someone explain what 8cm singles are?

THANKS in advance

The re-releases had~

-alternate artwork
-"normal" CD sizes (I think?)
-bonus remixes

Also, 8cm discs are those super cute small discs.

I think they released singles in small disks because they had less songs, so required less space... then they just stopped, maybe because they wanted to add remixes? Though even singles with very few tracks still have the same disk size as an album... maybe they just thought it was more practical to have all CDs be the same size~ I think that's the best I can do to explain what a 8cm single is...

The biggest difference between Ayu's 8cm and re-release singles, though, is probably the rarity They're really hot collector's items because they're out of print~

8cm discs are basically a dead format. Like the cassette tape.

Like fanmail mentioned, the main differences are:

-The rereleases have remixes on them, most of which are cut from the kanariya, appears, and Fly high singles.
-New artwork. In order to fit the new case sizes, the original cover is in the corner while the rest is a dfferent bg color for each release. Just check wiki to see the differences. =)
-8cm vs. 12 refers to the disc size. Japan used to release singles in 8cm format because they were cheaper and held less space. Eventually they switched back to 12cm, probably because remixes were becoming more popular and they wanted to lengthen the time on the CDs, and because people were abandoning the format. The cassette is a good comparison. Boys&Girls is Ayu's first 12cm single.

And yea, the 8cm are sold out and considered a collector's item now.

re-release's pattern looks like LV's pattern from far away I thought they just put whatever from 8cm disc to normal cd since no one uses 8cm anymore. 8cm is still cooler

i think cause people like me want to have those first few singles? BUT WE CANT FIND THEM ANYMORE CAUSE THEY ARE SO RARE!!

so we just buy the re-release albums to make ourselves happier

& i guess the difference is that there are remixes? maybe the sound changed also.. (?)

I think some of those re-release singles are sometimes more rare to get than the 8" ones Some are still on sale in places such as HMV Japan though. Probably CDJ too.

no the original releases were 8cm, the re-releases were 12 cm.

8cm cds basically died out because they wont play in cd players that automatically "suck" the cd in. the sensors in these cd players wont suck the 8cm cds in, or get jammed easily.
