That's the jam.

Weird Ayu song? Er - I always thought GAME was weird. Like Evolusean said, it seems like it ends on a bridge, leaving the song kind of - mysterious?

@Will: What's 3/4 and 4/4? lol I suck at music terms.
3/4, 4/4, and 6/8 are three different time signatures in music. 4/4 is pretty standard, 3/4 is, but not as common as 4/4, and 6/8 is a little complex.

I'm not good at describing time signatures. It's more of just knowing it for me, and I can't explain it.

Anyway, weird songs for me would include...

A Song is born -- Love this song, but the repetitive choruses and verses always make me lose track of where I am in the song. XD
alterna -- Violins and muffled voices, a rock track, a slow rock track, more muffled voices... It's crazy (and I love it!).
And Then -- I think it's something about the melodic beats when she's not singing. It just seems weird.
Connected -- Love the song, but the repetitive phrases and words with a constant crescendo and the two high choruses followed by a big repeat... It's all too confusing!
Duty -- Beautiful, but just sounds strange.
forgiveness -- The unusual structure throws me off. And those English lyrics at the end.
Humming 7/4 -- Like evolusean said, the uncommon (and constantly changing!!) time signatures! @_@
kiss o' kill -- Like evolusean said, it combines, like, three or four different genres into one song.
Ladies Night -- ...I think you guys can figure it out.
SURREAL -- Like forgiveness (and like evolusean said), the uncommon structure of the song throws me off.
taskinst -- Am I the first to mention an interlude? I just can't get whether this is supposed to be a rock or a ballad/dark-like piece (such as WONDERLAND).
until that Day... -- This is a biggie for me. It's slow, then goes into a techno-y sound with Ayu's futuristic voice, then turns into an acoustic piece, then... I don't even know! Haha, it's crazy. lol
vogue -- Like Duty, except not as beautiful in my opinion.

Ahaha. Sweetbox came up with this song.
It's not a song composed or made for Ayu..
It was originally released by Sweetbox before..
So that's why it doesn't quite sound like an Ayumi song..

But I like it, somehow!! ahaha I am the only one...

I've always thought ourselves was a weeeeeird song.
And in 1 Love, I think she sounds like Koda Kumi. LOL.

SCAR has a 6/8 feel.
SURREAL does not follow the standard verse-chorus structure.
Key ~eternal tie ver.~ does not follow the standard verse-chorus structure.
kanariya does not follow standard verse-chorus structure.
ever free does not follow standard verse-chorus structure and has a very conceptual arrangement.
NEVER EVER has a 6/8 feel.
still alone is a techno ballad.
Daybreak has a 6/8 feel.
M begins a ballad and suddenly becomes dancerock.
no more words has a melody more reminiscent of musical theatre than pop.
Free & Easy samples a movie theme, and really plays with dynamics and genre (hip hop, traditional asian music, european medieval music, rock, dance).
Dolls has a very classical arrangement and melody, but a pop beat, and also sounds like it could be in 6/8.
GAME has a separate melody for the intro, plus ends on what sounds like a bridge.
HANABI ~episode II~ has a 6/8 feel, and ends on what sounds like a bridge.
forgiveness has a strangely syncopated A melody and a quick 3/4 feel, plus combines a classical arrangement with a contemporary beat.
theme of a-nation '03 combines traditional Japanese elements and contemporary pop elements in both composition and arrangement.
HAPPY ENDING has a melody more reminiscent of musical theatre than pop.
Humming 7/4 has an obvious play with uncommon time signatures.
alterna has an incredibly conceptual arrangement, and plays with tempo.
Will starts in 3/4 with a hiphop beat and a melody reminiscent of a traditional asian folk song, then segues into a pre-chorus and chorus in 4/4.
HEAVEN does not follow the standard verse-chorus structure.
JEWEL combines a muffled hiphop beat with a simple piano ballad arrangement, and never reaches a full climax.
kiss o' kill challenges genre, with rock, classical, and techno elements in the arrangement.
Marionette has a 6/8 feel.

I'm pretty sure it's just a sitar played in its lower register. Nothing too out there. It's probably got some funky reverb on it, too.
wow, you really know your music theory. and music in general. and yes, this is why i fell in love with her... b/c she's so unique in a very unique way... if that makes any sense. hahaha.

Duty/End of the World kind'a caught me off guard with their intense chorus, but it works

Heartplace--i thought of this kind of song as psychedellic and weird, but that's what makes me <3 it, though ^_^

I am...--it's haunting yet so dragged-on... unfortunately

ourselves--dark and poppy and AWESOME

Without a doubt, kiss 'o kill is the strangest thing she's ever recorded.

so many people have mentioned still alone, but that's one of my favorite Ayu songs, also one of my favorite songs ever o_o it's such a powerful song...the march-like drum beat is a bit odd, but it only occurs in a few parts of the song.

I agree, and I love kiss o' kill because it is so weird. The children in the background at the beginning make it extra strange right from the start, and then there are organs... and then it's a rock song with organs!

It's actually Ayu's weird songs that keep me coming back, I think... when I think about my favorites, it's always the ones with a tinge of the strange that remind me why I like her, like Free&Easy, Duty, kiss o' kill, and Alterna.

if you go to sweetbox website, you can listen to a lot of the (miss)understood songs from Sweetbox.

Like LADIES NIGHT, Pride, Bold and Delicious...
http://www.sweetbox.com/disco/
The album is called Addicted, 2006 Japan.
It has samples of all of them...
Also rainy day is an adaptation, but I can't remember which Sweetbox song it is..
on that album...

actually ahaha you can go to the (miss)understood wiki..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/(miss)understood
and find all the songs that she adapted.

omg.. I'm so sorry!! ahaha.
I mixed the two titles of Beautiful Fighters and Ladies Night..
I apologize so much!!! uuu...
Sometimes I confuse those two..
Forget me. -_-;
LOL.
