tbh, I think you're one of those fans who have yet to discover more about Ayu.. especially with that "beautiful voice" comment, as any fan would probably tell you that Ayu's voice during television performances is... uh.. far from beautiful.

We all have to go through that sort of stage in our Ayu fandom, I guess.

That's a little condescending, as music/vocal performances hold different values for everyone who experiences them. People are welcome to like whatever they want, even if you think they are subpar.

True, but I think that eventually, you sort of realize that she's just not on-point during TV lives in comparison to her concert appearances.

I still sorta wonder why that is.

And I really think her good vocal performances outweigh her bad ones.
But that's me...

I do think that I agree that that comment is a little talking down to.
I have been fan of her for maybe since 2000~
And I have still believing that she has a really beautiful voice most of the time.
And yeah, I did see a lot of the tv appearances first hand. =\

I'm sorry, I get what you're saying, but it does sound a tad condescending, especially since the subject "beautiful voice" is open to interpretation. Although I do agree that she is probably not the best live singer, but personally I like most of her lives.

Just a thought.

Yeah the comment was open to interpertation. Sorry if I appeared to be rude. And also you're right to an extent, she has her good and bad days just like we all do. That is what connects us all together as people. Frankly, I do not believe your reply to my message was condescending, to an extent, you automatically perceived that I have not listened to her old tours just because I said she has a beautiful voice. Excuse me, if I happen to offend you. However, trust me when I say I can tell you that I do not listen to POWDER SNOW, STRICLY because her high pitched voice does not appeal to my ears in that song.
Besides the voce commment, why did you say that I am one of those fans who have begun more about Ayumi, even though you put the emphasis on the beautiful voice comment? Please do not mistake my kindness as stupidity. Just because I desire to believe in goodness in all does not mean that I am dumb and naive.

I didn't assume that you haven't heard her old concert-voice, but I was just saying that she's not a hot cookie when she's live on TV, really.

During concerts, her voice is pretty hot though. Case in point, like all of AT06.

Steering the topic back to the original reason for its creation:
Ayu still has time to turn this year around into something amazing. I believe she can do it, but since the beginning was baaaaaaaaaaaaaad, I'm not setting my expectations too high.. (so I can be easily surprised! kukukuku)

Oh excuse me for misreading your post, and like you said since you are easily surprised. I think you need to have a little bit more faith and patience, eventually AYU will blow you away. Hopefully though she does not grab a pair of hair clippers and well I am pretty sure you know the deal. LOL, and if not I will gladly explain and show you the pictures. And I sure hope that she does not end up in jail like a certain simple life star of ours. LOL. JK Sry for the dumb rants.

I actually like her voice in a lot of her TV lives pre-Jewel. From Jewel onwards I thought all of her performances on tv were taking a turn for the worse. Prior to that though I really liked her TV lives even if her voice was imperfect. The only really BAD performance I think for tv was CDTV in 2002 on New Years where she sang Independant. (the year she was sick) Take the vocals from that years CDL and make them 10 times worse and that is how the performance sounded - I felt bad for her.

I've cringed a lot during some live performances of ayu. My first time seeing her 'live' was probably CDL04-05 and 05-06 and i was like "wooh she's a wonderful live singer". Then i went online and found off-tune versions of fly high, b&g, seasons (super OMG), voyage to name a few and wondered how she got so popular but i'm still glad she hit the big time obviously.

The topic of this thread i guess is whether ayu's 10th anniversary year has been disappointing or not thus far. I say yes unfortunately. I'm not saying it's ayu's fault because i've my own expectations and she doesn't owe it to me to deliver. I just wished there was more hype, by the media, by banners all over tokyo, gameshow with x japan =p

We shall make a final judgement at the end of the year or December. Then we can explain how and why we think Ayu's performance this year is disappointing or impressive tour-wise, studio music-wise, TV appearances-wise, photoshoot-wise, fashion-wise, lyric-wise, concert-wise, style-wise, magazine-wise, vocal-wise, DVD release-wise, fan relationship-wise, wise wise wise wise wise etc... ^_^

I don't mind quite if the release results are like... wowx3/4/5/6....100000~

but um. hmm.....i guess my bottom line is as long as songs are good ~ XD
