Biggest music industry markets in your country

There are all sorts of music in this world..I thought it would be interesting to find out what is currently popular in your country...as in most profitable?

Over here in Singapore, the biggest markets would have to go to taiwanese pop and english pop music...there are lots of artists coming here for concert every year...and the albums and concert tickets etc are all selling pretty well too...and jpop and kpop are just some of the minors over here...not that popular as chinese pop and english pop

Shouldn't this be in the general music/asian music section?

Well, I guess at the current moment, hip-hop, R&B, pop, and rock are the biggest market in America right now. IMO, more and more artists are gunning for the urban market as well.

Well in the way you described the markets that are popular in Singapore, American music is without a doubt the most (if not the only) profitable market in the US. In terms of genres, I think that Pop/Rock and Hip Hop are the biggest sellers. I think anything that's T-Pain auto-tuned is pretty much guaranteed to be a hit

^Except for Ciara's new song with him. I don't like it at all. Although it's her style of music, I just don't like it. Some artist that T-Pain and Lil Wayne works with just doesn't work. She needs to go back to Missy again. Her last album was a disappontment to me. Goodies was definitely a great album for her.

I know right. America is not as diverse like it should be...but what can you do? The norm is not listening to Asian music but rather buying their stuff...and what not. I tried looking for radio stations that might play a lil bit of asian music but no luck (go figure Venus right! lol) But don't they have radio stations that play a lil bit of asian music in cali emiko? ^um...not really, at least not where I live...

The mexicans have been taking over the radio stations actually...

mexican music is like over half the channels...it wasn't always that way. Other than that, its the usualy mix of rock, hiphop, rap, pop whatever, then a few jazz, and one classical.

^no it's not, thank god. It probably HAS the largest market in the United States, of course, but according to the RIAA, it is not the top seller.

Rock is, Country comes in 4th.

I'm really surprised by that list. Country music just seems to keep growing and growing as far as sales are concerned... I wouldn't be surprised if it overtakes all of them in the near future.

I find that really odd... I can't even think of the last time rock music had a huge hit. Or maybe I just don't pay much attention to them Also, really odd that pop music is at #5. Maybe it's just the fact that very few things are "pop" nowadays. Even artists like Britney or Justin Timberlake go into other genres.

I'm not a fan of Coldplay, but I'm pretty sure they just had one.

Wow, I'm looking at the album chart #1s of 2008 and I'm shocked how much rock music there is. I demand to know who is buying Nickelback and 3 Doors Down

Really because they seem pretty stable.

Honestly, I think just marketing has increased a lot for them. I see Country ads all over the place. Annoying actually...but im biased...I hate Country music Lol.

except Shania Twain if you call her country.

I hate country music too but I definitely have seen an increase in its popularity, unfortunately. People like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift have done a lot for them.

Now I can't decide which I hate the most: country, rap or **** rock like Nickelback.

In Finland biggest markets are rock and rock pop mostly, because I have noticed that everytime there's some song playing on the radio, it's always rock based song. And it's mostly american rock music. But people in Finland also like hip hop, R&B and pop, but that kind of music isn't as popular as rock based music. :>
