It's my view that most Ayu fans seem to generally decide whether they like a song or hate it after the first few listens.. (and for some, even the first listen of the LQ preview that comes out recorded via microphone and so on..) It just seems as though Ayu fans as a majority seem to lack an appreciation for when she releases new music. She'd release something after months of hiatus-like behavior and people would still find something wrong with it to complain about (boring, lifeless, whatever) and it's usually almost always the same things said about different songs. Like, you see other artists and their fans and they very rarely complain incessantly about new material. (there are exceptions though) It just bugs me that there are no "standards" for good Ayu songs for many fans and it seems like all we have are the blind lovers who simply like things because they're Ayu, people who HATE Ayu but continue to listen to her for some reason, and the few in-between that aren't always looking for flaws/gold and simply enjoy her music for what it is. It's so lame that many Ayu fans are spoiled and take her work for granted. (though she has had some dud-like songs like GUILTY and awkward PVs in the past.. and the photography in the latest releases has been eh)

^ You're right, TrueHappiness, but nobody can do everything right... (like you said with photographs etc) Ayu is Ayu, and Ayu is still human.
But I am not sure about 'loving or hating a song' I agree with: after hearing it few times you can't really decide... but you can think soon what a song is for you... When I listened for the first time Forgiveness, I tought also: OMYGOD! EHHH!, well after listening more.. it will be over, but no...
Oh sh.. I hope this post is not full with mistakes and I also hope I understand you right, and you understand me..

It's always like that when people like me complain, others can't understand why. Some people just gave their opinion on this short preview. Even if some comments are a bit "rude", it's just what one feel about it. It doesn't mean that the whole song will suck... For what we can hear or perceive, it seems quite generic that's all.
I could also complain of people who seems to like the preview very much, you know, while I'm thinking it's another unoriginal song... among too many unoriginal songs lately. But I can't because it is what they feel.

it sounds very much like Momentum, a winter ballad. Though a happier feeling. Momentum is rather sad ?

I kinda understand where th is coming from though... it's not that people have opinions. That's okay, that's fine. But they should be more educated opinions. Opinions should be based on specific things, they should be based on paying attention. People who dislike this song should dislike it BECAUSE of something, not just cuz "ew", you know? And if they like it, they should like it because of something and not just OMG NEW AYU YAY!

Just don't form your opinions blindly, is all. Give the song a few listens, let yourself actually REALLY HEAR it, and then allow your true opinion to be formed.

I totally agree with you. But most of negative opinions are argued I think. Maybe it is quite natural because we are in a forum dedicated to "hamasaki ayumi" but it is always negative opinions which aren't understood... and that's a bit sad. We are not here to criticize blindly every new song...
Maybe people are disappointed because ayu said "it came from God" (or something like that :p). So some may have expected something amazing or really good...

But I repeat, it is just based on a preview, this song can be amazing at the end, even though the chorus seems really generic (for me).

P.S.: Yet I like GREEN so far, so whatever happens this single will be mine

Well I said it a few times and I'll say it again: I LOVE THIS SONG!

Everyone claims that Ayu's work is un-original. But really, how often is that? Ayu has done so many different types of music and I think she has done so much original material that it has become unoriginal to us. I'm glad this song seems so mainstream and generic. Lol. It's what we needed from Ayu.

I was more disappointed because I don't really care for the melody or the composition of the chorus at all.

But then again, this is only a preview. For me, it takes quite a bit for me not to like a song. I don't really care for Ayu's new works, but they aren't horrible or anything like that, just not my style.

With this song, for me, if I hear the entire thing HQ, and I still don't like it, it'll be because of a mixture of her vocals, the melody/composition, boring arrangement, and lost feeling.

Ayu songs have tremendous feeling, but sometimes it can get lost with a song that isn't composed in the best way and for me it happened with a few songs on guilty.

anthy brought up a good point that it seems that Ayu's newer works take time to grow into, and then you'll probably like them.

This could be true, it took forever for fated to grow on me, and now I love it.

But anyway, I seriously hope the verses are better and the beginning is awesome. Verses can really make or kill a song for me, more so than the chorus. So we'll see. It's not terrible. Might take a few singles for me to get used to it though

@allnightraver: I don't think that's why people say it's unoriginal. It's unoriginal to me because the background instrumentals seem very common. I think we really need to have the whole song to start throwing out the original/unoriginal opinions/accusations though.

Yeah, verses are also really important fr me... I don't like when everything is put on choruses and when verses are just here to fill the blank. But a contrast between choruses/verses can also be interesting, depends in which way it's done.

I agree with you... I think people think that Ayu will release something new and different every single... but she does have a specific musical style... I think this song sounds exactly like an Ayu song!
I like it so far... it's really sweet sounding...
If she releases a new album it's going to sound different from GUILTY (which I love)
however it's still going to be Ayu!

I liked this song (in fact, a preview) after the FIRST listening and I'm not a blind fan... I like Days because I like this piece of melody, her voice is sweet and diferent from gREEN and it gave me a sad and resignation feeling that is hard to describe... it shoked me, this feeling, only with the melody and the way she sings, because I hadn't the lyrics and i didn't know the meaning...

I can't sey I'll like the full song, but really, i really like this preview and, with others like GREEN verse, i didn't feel the same... i though green verse was quite boring and emotionless... and now i really like green...

What I want to say is that you can't generalize this much... because of some ayu fans are blind and love everything she does, doesn't mean everybody who liked Days with this 45 sec are also in this group of people...

I don't know if I explaneid properly what i wanted to say... but anyway... I also think that is a mistake to say that this preview is the most PERFECT and that it'll be the next favourite one, or that it's the WORST etc......

however... is with the full song and after some days of listening to it that we'll be able to say a sentence about days correctly ^^ IMO

Yes, I agree with you Delirium. I believe people shouldn't judge things from a short 45s preview and furthermore, it is not in very good quality. The feel of the song only comes through via her vocals. Even those who like it shouldn't judge it fully as well since you never know the before and after...
(but of course, they have a higher tendency to like it)
