There are also a lot of times when the lipsync is not lipsynced.
I wish this was an artistic pv like maybe Moments or so.
I think that kind of Moments type of pv suits GREEN better than this one...
Like, the PV seems very disconnected from the lyrics..
GREEN lyrics feel very cold feeling, very winter.. like she is alone.
But its like a party, and she is a diva.
Even in the beginning, when she is not performing in stage, she could act a bit more cold.
Instead she chooses to walk like the queen of everything.

I really really hated the walking part, because they even chopped during lines.
At least let her get through one part, and then change the shot..
I thought it was just ridiculous...
And the actual dance with Midoring... it was so bad... unnecessary if they cant do it well!!!!!!! ><)
no continuatiny (... I cant remember the spelling. LOL) in this pv at all...

I really hate this director..
I loved mirrorcle world, but now this one... is just over the top and ridiculous.
No explanations, using unnecessary diva walking... -_-;;;
And still... I feel really weird about Ayumi and Midoring part...
I really wish it was just Ayumi and SHUYA or Zin or someone... ._.)
I could enjoy the love story (however little there was one) better.

It just makes me feel that this is telling us in real life...
No one in Team Ayu is happy. ahahahaha.

I duno if ayu is trying to portray the homosexualism in this PV again.. but i find it rather bland because most of the parts are ayu walking and singing and dancing..

I feel that it will be better shld the PV tells a love story.. cos the 1930's in Shanghai is a wonderful platform for many love stories to develop!!

And probly you understand how shock I was when I watched that in the preview. Bad tango... And then when the full version came out, they were actually doing two different types of dances... I couldn't recognize the first one before they did that very bad tango steps...

Personally, I think the overacting by Ayu in both the MW and Green videos is intentional. Watching both MVs, they have a theme in common. They are both about identity as performance.

In MW, Ayu is a spy, a person for whom identity is always reinvented and constructed, hence it is "performed". In Green, Ayu is a performer for the Chinese stage. For an actor, identity is also a performance. The homosexual undertones in Green is about how gender is a performance as well. I think the director is trying to connect the act of performing to the way one expresses one's sexuality. Midoring as a man, and the two men dancing together. Remember that back in the era that the music video is set, it was still common to have men perform the roles of women on stage.

So when Ayu overacts, she is drawing attention to her performance in the music video. The contrast between Ayu walking down the street in the beginning and in the end show this as well. At the start of the video, Ayu is very unnatural in her movements, she is situated in the middle of the view of the camera, and the colors are warm. In the ending, the camera zooms away from an Ayu walking away. Her expressions and movements are more natural, and the colors are cold and harsh. In the beginning, the performance is simply beginning. In the end, the performance comes to a close.

Actually I accept the expressions she made in MW, because it's quite a fierce song. I believe what you said, "identity is also a performance." But the way she performed in GREEN is exaggerating.

I don't understand the story behind this PV (except that Ayu is in love with Midoring and that she is a famous chinese singer). I like the beginning and the ending of the PV, especially the feeling of old chinese streets and people.

But the rest is just boring and i don't like it~~

well, for a Takahide Ishii work, i think it's pretty good.
although it's still lacking something, like a slow-motion effect or something (God it'll be SO good if there were any special slow-motion effects)
but i like the costumes and the "quality" feel to it (which is something VERY rare in Takahide's PVs)

all-in-all, i kinda like it, maybe i'll grow to love it - which is quite unlikely for now
it's a nice PV after all

I am really dissapointed.I already didn't like Green itself... But I thought when it is so bad maybe the PV is better... It's too much Mirrorcle World and nowadays her facial expressions are really bad, she seems really aggressive and I think her mouth looks like some fish mouth. Don't get me wrong. I love Ayu and I think she is pretty (of course she was way prettier in 2004 era ans her music was better) but right now it's really not my type... (Sry for my english)

I hope that Days will be better!

I LOVED THE PV!! O_O The beggining is <3 When I heard the music I got reminded of that festival and then I saw dragons, yay I think they should have made her more relax while walking, she looked like she was jumping and she was too stiff
Ayu in white with that on her head was used like 1000 times, but ok she looked fancy. I love that transition when she's suddenly in red dress I love the dress, or maybe it would be better that she used dark green for it (too look less ****ty lol and the song title is GREEN). But I think she looked gorgeous.
I only don't understand the dance with Midori (is it her?). I just waited for them two to kiss xD lol
Anyway, I like the idea and everything. I would just remove the part with birds in cages and Ayu in white, it looks out of place. But I loooove it The PV made me love the song more haha.

A lot of people are saying that Ayu is over exaggerating her acting, but for a short clip such as a music video, where you really really want to get the point across the first time it's important. See Melodrama.

I liked the PV actually. I just can't stand the first part when Ayu walks weirdly in the streets and behaves like some diva when this PV isn't supposed to be "HEY LOOK I'M A DIVA!!!"... the director is really bad at taking such scenes. But the plot and everything else of the video is actually quite good.

Good interpretation... But I still think that in the beginning, she's looking for where Midoring left and everything from theathre part 'til the PV ending where Midoring leaves by the car is a flashback?
Plus in the very beginning before the "GREEN" and chinese&japanese "ayumi hamasaki" text appears there's the sound of walking with high heels, same when Ayumi walks off in the ending. At that part it shows some grey buildings like in the ending before "getting out" from that area into the sepia coloured central village.. xD I wonder if I make any sense.

I like the movie-like technique the director used in the PV, and also the old Shanghai feeling, but some parts are a bit boring

Well GREEN has a plot then Mirrorcle World ^^' but seems the same.

The good parts of this PV are the scenery, amazing, and the dance with the fans.
When Ayu dances with Midorin, she's awkward and make the dance a little bit.. What kind of word can I use? Bland, the dance doesn't fit the 'passion' between Ayu and Midorin.
Some parts are really LOL, like when boys dances in the street.

The concept its great a proibitive love story in the 40s China, but the director has doing a bland PV. Too bad..GREEN is such an amazing song

Actually, Ishii Takahide didn't direct this. ^^; This is by the guy who directed Mirrorcle World... whatever his name was.
