I don't mind it myself, but my friends always make fun of it >__< Like they'd visit me while I have Ayu on, and they copy her vibrato xD Stupid.

I wish she wouldn't do it that much in lives though. Like in Kiss o Kill AT07, the first very long, high "yell" she sings, she doesn't do it! That's just a clean, beautiful pitch!
But then for the rest she does do it.

she should use her old fashioned way of singing...
Vibratto and enka singing are very different things. Also, moving your mouth is not needed to do vibratto but it does make it more emphasized (and therefore more annoying). What Namie does is what all trained singers do, you pull the mic down on louder or more piercing notes so that you don't kill your audience. Sometimes she pulls it too far away though - the idea is to pull it just far enough so that there isn't a major audible change in volume.

Ayu looks really professional when she does the vibrato thingy with her mouth. Especially when she sang HEAVEN and teens @AT06

all the people that says that they don't like her vibrato

its a singing technic and helps to keep the note that the person is singing.

and believe me, if she didn't use vibrato, her voice would be like in her first album still... and also pretty boring and nasal

EDIT: remember the re-recording of the 3 songs from her first album for A BEST?? (A Song for XX, Trust and Depend on you) those songs sound 100% much better because of her new technic, aha! vibrato ^^

I wish Ayu did the pull mic down thing... sometimes on her piercing notes, she gets a little overwhelmingly loud. XDD;;;

I kinda like Ayu's vibrato. I think she does it for show.

I think it's more of a habit than anything. It can look more dramatic for her performances.

I don't mind it and see it as part of her performance

I agree too!! She didn't move her mouth in her earlier singing but after I see her lie performance of JEWEL, I was shocked and smiled when she moving her mouth..
I think that helps her vibrato to make it more controllable, i think...
But I enjoy it and even do it also..

Really? Her vibratos were kind of dull (and barely were there...)

As for me her vibratos since 2004 are the best vibratos ever, I just love it when she makes them long and exaggerated XD. It gives her voice a great quality.

I think she moves her mouth that it will be more convinient to make it or just a habit. Most of the singers who do vibratos well I saw them doing it.

i think it's cool i sing vibrato too, and sometimes my mouth moves, sometimes it doesn't...depends on the note (for me) and length...

lol i don't get how it annoys people...at least she doesn't do that annoying thing britney spears does...that crackly sound before she sings lower notes...THAT'S annoying...she sounds like The Grudge (not hating on britney, i still like her)

Well now I think she has no choice but to use it..
She's been using it so long, I don't think she can change it.
Anyways, it makes dramatic effect at the end of songs... ahaha

Vibratos, IMO, are like icing on cake: you don't need it, but if you have it, it sure is good.

About her mouth thingy, well like everyone else, I would say it's for show too. But who cares? She looks cool while doing it.

Actually it makes it more uncontrolled. Her vibratto has been pretty out of control for a few years now.

I try to explain this... But I want to apologize because you know... english isn't my mother tongue.
So, move the mouth when she is doing vibratos is a little trick, a little help to make the sound. Sometimes, specially when your voice isn't in a good condition, you need a little help to make some sounds with your voice.
There are a lot of little helps for singers to do some sounds when your voice isn't good... or you have a cold and need to performance (like AYU sometimes) and well... that's the reason why AYU moves her mouth sometimes. With this help she doesn't force her vocal chords (strings? I don't know how to say that but I hope you understand) so much, and she can take care a little more of her voice and vocal chords...

Imagine sing everyday or every two days two hours... without a rest. Your voice suffer a lot and with the pass of the time it finally sounds like... ****. xD

Well... I don't know if I've been able to explain myself.... xD I'm terrible! xD

It's better to have vibratto that is not so in your face noticeable - if there is too much it really takes away from the song and often times hers is overkill.

Most pop singers do the mouth moving thing for the visual effect but usually during vocals lessons teachers teach you not to move your mouth actually. Check out really trained singers - opera for example. In Akikawa Masafune's performances his mouth barely moves, it's done completely in his throat - that's true vibratto.
