KaZaA's victory

Some time ago, KaZaA was sued by Dutch copyright company Buma/Stemra. The trial ended yesterday, and KaZaA won. Here's an article from the newspaper:

'Historische zege KaZaA'

---

‘Historical victory KaZaA’

Internetusers will remain to be able to illegaly exchange copied music, movies, and computergames via KaZaA. Yesterday, the High Council judged that the popular internetservice does not harm copyrights. For that reason, KaZaA will not have to make arrangements to prevent illegal use either.

The verdict is a painful loss for copyrights organisation Buma/Stemra. They accused the internetservice of a felony. Hundreds of millions of internetusers can exchange digital material worldwide when they have KaZaA installed. Internationally, it seems to damage the entertainment industry, who are missing out on billions of euros.

KaZaA said this was a ‘historical victory’.Lawyer Wouter Pors of the originally Dutch company: “This was attempt # 300.000 or what to stop modern technology. Initially, videotapes and casette tapes were welcomed with mixed feelings as well, because it was feared that there would be illegal copies as well.”

---

Sorry for my engrish!

Kazaa is a much larger and more well-known network than either WinMX or DC++, so it's only natural that they target the biggest threats first.

As for the news, another article can be found here. To me, it's good that Kazaa won this battle, as it'll hopefully lessen the amount of people getting sued for sharing files.

file sharing is something that can't be stopped. they can try, but they can't shut them all down, they can only compete with them.

'that' country is my beloved Holland j/k, anyways, I do think it'll be influential. KaZaA just ISN'T illegal, so not anywhere on the world it can be judged as so.

On the bad side tho, this will mean that copyright companies as the RIAA and such will go after individual users instead of sueing companies such as KaZaA, eMule, and DC++.

You can d/l songs. If you will be caught... I doubt it. You're from Singapore, rite? It's mostly the RIAA that's been bugging American users.
