Ugh... 4th day sales is usually the lowest with little or sometimes, huge boost on the weekend (which I doubt). But I think I should be happy for 80 to 90k first week sales.... hopefully 100k. But considering this single has no promos at all, the sales are doing extremely well... better than kuu's last single that also released more or less a month before her TRICK's being released. Yeah... considering that we SHOULD be really grateful that AYu can pull out such a high sales figure. She still stands strong

Yes, that is what I was talking about. Seiko is already a really good example. After she lost her no. 1 streak in singles, her sales (or ranking more precisely) fell sharply. It's like, her last single was no. 2 (the broken one), then the next single was already down to no. 28 . Of course she did struggle back to top 20 or she even had one no. 1 single later on, but you can see her chart life technically ends right after her no. 1 streak is broken.

She is still having a no. 1 streak at this moment because avex tries to put her releases on the safe weeks. That means, there are no strong competitors around. This applies to the artists who are still having no. 1 streaks as well. Once they meet new artists like SCS and get defeated, the magic will be gone. Do you guys believe that avex will try their best to put ayu on safe week again once the streak is gone?? 50-50 for me.

Also what this cannot tell you is how many online purchases there are for Rule and Sparkle.

And without TV promotion.. it's a great sales figure.

I dun think we are pessimistic or so. Rather I'm looking into reality. No one stays on the top forever. As we worship some artists, we have to prepare for a day that they're not as popular as before. Also, if I started loving ayu after 2004, probly I wouldn't feel such strong contrast. But I was there when she was on the very top, beating practically every single artist out of her way (except hikki ). 1999 - 2003 was my favourite era because my most beloved ayu and hikki conquered the charts (single or album, monthly or yearly). Now ayu still maintains her no. 1 streak (which is a good thing btw), and hikki still has the strongest digital sales in Japan (a really good thing).

And talking about why Johnny conquers the yearly single charts nowadays... I do have a thought. Is it because their hardcore bases are pretty rigid? I mean, their sales neither increase or decrease as much as compared to 5 - 6 years ago. But other artists declines so much, so it makes them look shinier than it should be? (ahh I can't really express my thought..)

Anyway I just think that there is a difference in to look in the reality in an optimistic and realistic way and dwelling the past and look at the present in pesimisstic and realistic way. It's for the observer to choose. So I do understand why some comments look really pessimistic very often. We should look into the future in optimistic and still realistic eyes.

Right, that's why I'm impressed by Arashi's sales right now. It almost never happens for any artist that you hit your height of popularity after you've been around for 10 yrs. Usually your golden era would happen in the first 3-4 years. And if you are a Johnny's artist, make that your first year - with SMAP and Arashi being the ultra big exceptions.

Johnny's have had a significant sales decrease as well. The last Johnny's single to sell over a million copies was 2005 (or was it 2006? Either Dec. 05 or Jan. 06) Kattun Real Face. If this were still pre-2006, they'd be churning out a couple million sellers a year or at least would come close. I'm sure that One Love and Truth both would have made the million mark.

Trust me, I'm not obsessed with her past and think the current her is bad or crap (lol). In fact, I think her sales are quite logical and decent. Let's say... Rule/Sparkle. It is based on 1) the single and album are close to each other, and 2) It's not a typical music that will be well-received by general public in Japan.

Awesome!!! It dropped in less than 1500 and still #1!!
Rule/Sparkle is doing way over my expectation (of 80,000 first week) lol.

Hmmn.. Real face... I dunno if it's a good example or not. That was KAT-TUN's debut single, with 6 different covers (limited edition) + 1 regular cover. If I was a fan I would definitely buy 2+ covers for sure (1 regular, and 1 or more for my favorite group member(s)).
My thought really is... Suppose Arashi has had 400K hardcore fans since the beginning.. and you know fangirls usually have the strongest loyalty (especially to young, handsome boybands). Let's say over the years 100K fans were gone and 300K fans remain loyal, and 70% of them usually buy all the versions whenever a single is out. So if they have two versions as a standard, then they can get at least 500 - 600K cds sold per single.. And I don't mean other artists' fans (such as ayu fans, B'z fans, kuu fans, etc.) not being loyal... It's just they may think it's cheapest (and wiser) to purchase digital formats... Of course this is not 100% true (and even logical).. But I kinda believe this is one of the possibilities..

These are pretty normal sales patterns. I mean, 4k on the 4th day. Then there should be a slight weekend boost.

I think it will sell around 85,000-93,000 first week looking at the sales now which is pretty good.
On the second week it will well around 8,500-15,000 and it will reach over 100,000.
