gosh, i have always believed that ayu sings live in every tour. i was so angry that eason chan accused ayu of not singling live 30% of the time in AT07. now when i come to think about it, the boys and girls performances in various tours have "sank-yuu" and "ai ai ai ai's" in the same time. weird, or maybe it was a live playback.

too bad that we don't have much fancams for ATs in Japan.. people in Japan rarely taking pics and videos inside the hall..(except at ASIA TOUR stops), well can be said, they respect the artist very much and enjoy the concert more)

yea probably some of the fast songs in any ATs and CDLs are playback~

I dont think the Boys & Girls are playback because of that, shes screaming and not singing the boys and girls performances, if she sang them playback, it would sound very different, the sank-yuss and so on are at the same time because shes just used to thanking the audience at that time, its like a line in the song for her

M at CDL 04-05 definitely sounded like playback to me.

Boys and Girls I do think that she sings live pretty much everytime. She just has a lot of set phrases that she says in that song. And yes, I remember the Eason Chan thing. He was attacked a lot for saying that even though he himself is a professional singer so I think he would know better than anyone whether it is lip synched or not.

In my early days as a fan, I too believed that she never lip synched but mainly because that's what I wanted to believe, but as I saw her more times live and really began collecting all of her concerts and tv lives and watched them many many times did it gradually become obvious to me that she has lip synched, and a number of times more than people usually think - its just almost impossible to definitively prove unless there is an Angel's Song type mess up.

Yeah, I've never found an Ayu bootleg - not audio or video. Why can't more Japanese H!P fans be into Ayu? haha. HP fans bootleg just about every concert.

There was a big discussion about that at the time. I've never listened to the performances back to back but it did sound mighty similar, if not exactly the same, to M at the Asia Song festival which occurred close to the same time.

But, the most important thing is that Ayu never lipsynch in every songs, right?
it's just probably, in some of the songs she did~
since Eason Chan said that she almost lipsynched in every songs~
where in fact, he said he was sleeping almost at the entire show~
and i was there at the HK concert though, and i sat as near as the loud speakers where i was sitting so up high, and i could tell that probably, M, Boys & Girls and until that day were lipsynched~ as far as i can tell~
not that i wanted to defend Ayu though, but yeah, i believe she did some lipsynch too..not until someone, somewhere explained to us, artists may be using playback because they have so many concerts to do...and it's for saving up energy, so yeah...I finally understand bout using playback/miming/lipsynch...
the most important for me is that.. she doesn't do in all songs

^ In some ways though I feel that saying "they have so many concerts to do" is a bad excuse. There are lots of artists that perform tons of concerts but don't lip synch. Morning Musume for example performs 2 or sometimes even 3 concerts in one day! (insane!) Yet their shows are usually live. Or any rock artist like L'arc en Ciel etc., whose songs are actually extremely vocally demanding, but they don't lip synch.

But I agree that as long as it is just an occasional thing, its not that big a deal. Its just unfortunate though that it seems to be happening more and more often.

hmm maybe like someone said earlier, Ayu wants to use this playback method is because she wants the concert to be perfect~
but all i know that morning musume's songs are not as hard as Ayu's songs...and they divide their songs in parts, who will sing first part, second part, and etc~ so that each of the members can still save their energy for their own parts.. i guess, singing as a group is that's not as hard as a solo perfomer who needs to do their own in all parts of the song~

and for rock bands.. they only play instruments not singing and dancing though~ so yeah..they can save energy to sing out of their lungs~ lol~ though they sometimes jump up and down but not always~

in my opinion, some artists who often using this kind playback thing are the artists who're mostly dancing, acting and singing at the same time.. (example, Namie Amuro, who dances at most of the songs~ i even doubted that she actually lives in all songs~ except for ballads~)

and yet, there are singers out there, few out there, who probably have extra energy, or like who are really born to sing who can really sing all non stop... like in my experience here, Jacky Cheung, a HK famous singer, whose concert that i've ever watched before, i believe that he sang all his songs live, because i could lots of improvisations he did in almost every songs..

and i believe that Ayu won't be lipsynch at all songs, but only some of the difficult songs~

Anyone notice the lip-syncing actually gets more and more often ever since she decided to make her concerts more aesthetic and more visual, and also doing dancing herself as well?

Hahaha, sometimes I don't know if I prefer boring-Ayu-stands-and-sings concert that's almost/most likely 100% ala Concert Tour 2000 and her earlier concerts, or a Ayu-moves-it concert where she inevitably has to lip-sync a couple of songs to save herself from dying.

^ I prefer the former. Less choreography and what not also gives the songs a more authentic quality. However, if she wants to sing and dance at the same time, it is possible to do that without lip synching - sure it won't sound as great, but I would rather it be live. Also, with enough training and practice you can do both without them automatically having to be bad.

Also, dancing as the reason for lipsynching doesn't really account for the songs that were lipsynched that don't have any dance/choreography. (Theme of A-Nation and probably those couple of M performances that were mentioned.) I really wonder why those would ever be considered necessary to lip synch.

Yes, that is true, though they also dance non-stop throughout the whole concert, so I do think it is tough even though they may split up the parts.

Actually she does sing live the whole time from my experience (seen her live twice and have most of her concert dvd and tv lives). Sometimes she has a backing track but I have never seen her completely lip synch before.

but it's saving more energy if you're not dancing and singing at the same time though..
maybe as for Ayu, she wants to show best choreographer and acting when comes to up beat songs?

or probably... Ayu was not used to sing and dance at the same time in her earlier days, therefore, in her recent performances where she needs to dance, she is kinda lacked of energy for that, even though she can train well, but with her hectic schedule like that, i doubt she can do that~ and she's definitely not a pro for being a singer who can dance and sing at the same time..that's why she uses playback in some songs?

i think dancing is like new to her.. where she's supposed to be just like Hikki who only explores in music and singing.. where Ayu wants to conquer all? hahaha lol

I prefer ayu standing around and her dancers dancing(like Born to Be...AT06, that was amazing!), so her voice is saved from the dancing and she doesn't need playback...buit, well, she's done it in ballads before, too

^ There were some performances of 'M' that were speculated.

Oh well. This is a very tiring topic to discuss and catch up thought... but kudos to all of you getting information! If I think of something I'll be back to say something!

@ AyUmIXx

There was theme of a'nation '03 and, as waterballoon said, some M performances, also, somebody(I think SunshineSlayer? correct me, if im wrong) wrote that some SEASONS performances are suspicious.
+ It's way harder for us to know if a ballad is playback, so theres probably a way higher number of unknown ballad playbacks(compared to the amount of known ones) than the amount of unknown fast paced(often headmic) playbacks compared to the known ones, because headmic-playbacks are way easier to detect

How is not being used to the song a reason to lip synch? Shouldn't it be a reason NOT to lip synch? Its far more dangerous to lip synch a song you don't sing very often than to lip synch one you sing all the time - you are much more likely to make a mistake, just like she did.

noidea, yea that's why it's hard to know whether she uses playback or not in some songs... it's seriously hard..even i was at the concert, i really didn't know whether she did lipsynch or not.. just my feeling said so..
it's like i didn't really hear so clearly of how she sang it..

SunshineSlayer, hmmm i think that because she has never sung that song a lot of time, therefore she's afraid she will make mistake? she only sang that theme of the nation'03 for the 1st time at CDL05-06 right?
haha i don't know it's just what i thought..and like i said it's all speculation of why she did the playback.. we never know what's the real reason..

OK, new topic xD Anybody else think that fairyland a-nation '08 and Greatful Days a-nation '08 both sounded really, really weird? Especially fairyland, it just gives such a weird feeling to me and her mic and mouth movements are really different to CDL0506, too
And another song: Startin' AT06, I get the same feeling, her mouth just seems off.
