Jpop is indeed influencial. I started liking Jpop world in late 90's with ZARD, Ozaki Yutaka, Seiko Matsuda etc. when I still haven't discovered ayu. I also like some Cpop and Kpop but I think Jpop really stand out because they managed to have their own name after US pop.

I, personally, much prefer Japanese music
Most of my music library is Japanese

Nevertheless, there are some C-pop artists I like (and Hong Kong/Taiwanese if we're being technical)
Some of my favourites are Jolin Tsai, A-mei, Elva Hsaio, Kary Ng, Stefanie Sun, Karen Mok, Twins and S.H.E

But I do agree that J-pop is so much more influential.

^ yeah totally, though now some of the music is getting superficial because people mostly only know jolin who usually you hear singing about something not very meaningful~

the 90s were definitely the best! the music was simpler, but the lyrics and vocals were amazing

This doesn't apply to everyone as obviously there are some pretty classic artists here like Faye Wong and Teresa Teng... and hmm, Roman Tam, Sam Hui, etc etc. They're all part of the "oldies" though, except Faye Wong, haha.
I HIGHLY disagree with this statement. If anything, most Cpop singers have more stability in their market whereas in Japan many singers are one hit wonders just because their song was for a drama, anime or movie. Many mainstream artists have kept up their popularity/remained in the public eye for years such as Leehom, Jolin, Jay Chou and several several more.

I believe is Japanese music is more influential as even Cpop is influenced by it. With that said, I prefer Chinese music because Jpop has bored me except for a few artists and releases.
