LOL about the cultural insensitive part! Manba's "Blacking up" is not "culturally insensitive" in the first place by that sort of thinking?

I think she looks great in the video. Her kimono is divine.

I don't think that she's culturally insensitive. I bet she doesn't really know that manba and lolita almost never mix, but even if she did, I doubt she actually trying to be either one of the styles, just experimenting while she is in Japan. As long as she doesn't try to pass it off as "Harajuku" or anything similar, like Gwen, I'm fine with it.

But, Lady Gaga isn't trying to pass this off as a real style in Japan. Gwen is, and she's wrong. Don't get me wrong, I love Gwen. I went to see her live for my birthday, but it bugs me the way she is trying to show off this Harajuku fashion, when it isn't Harajuku fashion. To me, if you are gonna act like you love it so much, you should at least get a little info on it.

I don't she is doing anything but trying some new local style... not wrong with this... jpop fans just should be less defensive about Japan stuff... It's not like she is kicking a japanese sacred thing or talking bad about them, it's just a dress and make-up...

About Gwen... that was not harajuku fashion, that's why her own heird fashion with references of harajuku fashion... and this is pretty common when talking about design...

You don't need to shut up. It's interesting to hear other people's opinions.

I think that if she wanted to "portray them right" she could have hired real girls dressing in Harajuku fashions. I guess what bugs me the most is that she isn't calling a spade a spade, you know? If she wants to say it's Harajuku inspired fashion, that is totally fine, but she makes it seem, to me at least, like she is trying to pass them off as real Harajuku fashion. If I had to give them a Japanese sub-culture, I'd say these girls are B-Kei. And they hang out in a totally different district of Tokyo. Type Harajuku into Google images, and the stuff you get looks nothing like the girls dancing around Gwen.

gwen said once that she got inspired by the japanese fashion and wanted to combine it with western fashion. =o

she described her fashion as harajuku meets christian dior.

^As long as she says she's just inspired, than I'm okay with that, I really love her and her music. Although, I must say that this is good thing for Japan, because it does spark interest in the country for more than just Anime, and a lot of Western high-fashion looks start out in Japan.

Although, I do think that Lady Gaga is just as good, and despite that her manba make-up looks horrible, I think she looks really good in lolita. Better than most foreigners.

And here's more of her in Japan

Why she just can't keep her old style in Japan too.. I mean I bet her fans in Japan would like to see her in her personal style more than using Japanese styles...

LOL. Okay, so if every western person that dresses in a japanese fashion is being culturally insensitive, then there would be a lot of lame otaku from america that would be threw into the melting pot with her.

and, hell, we all might be culturally insensitive if japanese isnt our first language and we are listening to their music. i mean, its a japanese thing right? >w>
