How~~? They're nothing alike. Except for having a song called "Poker face" but Gaga is talking about a completely different subject than Ayu in that song...

Ayu and Lady GaGa both bring great orriginal visions and fashon to their image, they are both in total control of their image. Just GaGa went more crazy with hers haha. Like both Ayu and Gaga have brought fashion that wasn't big before (or was vintage) and then it got big after fans so them with it (Again Gaga went crazier). Also they both brought a new genre of music to the mainstream that wasn't your typical current pop (ayu started out current pop but brought electronica and her genre mixing to the mainstream, Gaga ressrected 80's style music and basically started the new wave of electronic music that now prevails)

Actually, Gaga got the eye tatoo idea from David Bowie, since she's obsessed with the 80's.

I actually love Lady GaGa.

I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan, but I do enjoy her music. Of course I disapprove of some of her "grotesque" lyrics, but her music is really enjoyable. Like most fans, "Poker Face"* and "Just Dance" are my favorite songs. Again, I don't totally approve of the overall theme with the lyrics (drinking and sex), but each song is great. Her vocals during the chorus of "Poker Face" are great and the entire arrangement of "Just Dance" is just fabulous. And I kind of like its message to "just dance" and you're "gonna be okay."

Her fashion is... questionable, lol, but unique nonetheless. It certainly makes her stand out and catches your hair.

Sometimes I did think of Ayu when I saw her, but I don't usually compare them too much.

* "Poker Face" -- I'm sure you can imagine how close I was to typing it in all lower cased letters.

I'll have to disagree with you, the main difference between Lady Gaga and Ayu is that Lady Gaga didn't "start" anything. Her fashion is not something people wear on a regular basis, and I doubt it ever hits the fashion magazines (thought I don't really know). Ayu, however, has been in fashion magazines for like ever and also started several trends, like the fox tail (from evolution).

Also, the the wave of electronic music had already started, "Just Dance" was nothing new. It was a good song yes, but not a new genre or resurrected genre.

Don't get me wrong, I love Lady gaga (to back that up: I bought The Fame and listen to it every day).. but she's in no way a trend starter. She's not revolutionary like Ayu was for Japanese pop culture. Not at ALL.

That's why I said that Lady GaGa is more like Koda Kumi than Ayu. ^^; Because Ayu is more like Madonna (in terms of fashion and a icon status).

Def respect your opinions but whether or not you think she is like AYu Gaga definitely has started trends, buy ressurected 80's fashion, like her sunglasses.

THANK YOU. Your post pretty much expresses my feelings exactly xD One of my friends is obsessed with Lady GaGa to the point where it's kind of unhealthy, and always has to insist that Lady GaGa's music style is "totally new & unique" when it really isn't... I really love a lot of songs by GaGa too (Just Dance, LoveGame, The Fame, Boys Boys Boys, and Fashion being some of my faves), but I'm pretty sick of people overrating her @__@;

it's really lame how everyone keeps comparing her to Ayu, the forum "idol" -w-;

they aren't ALIKE in the least bit. you can't compare apples and oranges.

they both write music.... that's where the similarities end.

I finally received my THE FAME copy this week (I'm so late in everything XD). Before that, I only had listened to "Just Dance" and I loved it.

I LOOOOOVE this album. Seriously, almost every song rocks! There are like 5 songs max I'd say are average, but the rest are pretty good. My favorites are actually Starstruck (love that sparkly sound that runs through most of the song..it's so good), Eh Eh (Nothing Else I can Say) [So cute and uplifting, I love songs that have the power to immediately change my mood for the better], Money Honey and Lovegame. Her lyrics are funny LOL I hope this girl keeps up this cool style of songs that I love in her next albums!

Sigh whatever it was just an opinion. It wasn't like i was placing it down as fact or saying one ripped off the other. I simply said one reminded me of the other occasionally. Its one thing to give the opposite side of the view but you don't have to lash out kokoro

Oh no hahaha I was lucky with Rihanna's GOOD GIRL GONE BAD, since I love that album but I was only able to buy it when the RELOADED was released, so it was a plus. Brazil is really outdated in everything. Lady GaGa's album has been out of stock here ever since it was released because the people here have no commercial view..they really didn't know this girl was becoming a huge hit out there so they really didn't stock much with THE FAME. So it was pretty hard to find a copy. Only the last few months has the album finally become easily available, but then I was really short of money. But well, if she ere-releases it with worthy material I won't mind "re"buying THE FAME again. XD

Because Gaga wants to bring something different to the table and has control over her work the same way Ayu (kinda) means she "wants to be the Ayu of America"? That's kind of it, in terms of likeness.

I really like Lady Gaga but I don't find her to be that revolutionary (I mean really, there's no "wave of electronic music prevailing" right now).
