the only Johnny's bands that I don't listen to are mainly the seniors like SMAP , TOKIO & the occasional MATCHY

since from that piece of info that MATCHY with QUESTION ? doesn't seem to be a strong single seller , I can't imagine for his solo singles's sales & let alone chart positions o_O

^ I think it all depends on how much he actually promotes it. The last single I think I remember him releasing was sometime around 2005 - he did lots of tv promotion and I think it sold fairly well. But then I just read that last year he released a single that sold next to nothing though. However, that may have been some kind of special limited release or something because I don't remember hearing anything about it and I follow both Oricon and Johnny's.

I know that he formed a temporary unit with Johnny Junior band QUESTION ? 4 years ago & they released a single for the NARUTO - Shippuden anime called Mezamero! Yasei & the band was called MATCHY with QUESTION ?

& that's true , it all depends on how much promo's being given to Matchy since man he's a legend in the talent agency so there

-MOTTO- will only be released in 1 edition while You were ... / BALLAD will get 3 editions

according to the Japanese wikipedia, That singer had his last #1-single in 1987. After that he had many more singles, but none reached #1.. So.. I think Ayu is safe

Even if in the 90s his singles didn't reach number 1, at that time to have any single in the top 10 meant that it sold very, very well. (unlike today) But I agree, it's doubtful he will be a threat at this point.

I don't think there's any need to worry. It's not as though this guy's a Kuwata Keisuke or something. His single is also coming out 12/13 and the first days would probably count towards the previous Oricon week, right?

I imagine that a big part of it is that he doesn't really sing much anymore? He's a full time racer now apparently.

yeah it seems that he's more focused in his professional racing career judging from his wikipedia page & he's probably semi retired as a singer in this case
