There is a difference between getting a GOOD upbeat song and a BAD upbeat song.

GOOD upbeat song = Fun instrumentation, Doesn't bore the listener, Singer is having fun with their voice and singing with energy

BAD upbeat song = Go listen to anything on my life

weren't the upbeat songs in my life good lol?

Swear, Lost Child, Essence of me are like my favorites on the album and they're upbeat. Maybe Butterflies and Call my name are kinda meh, but whatever.

The ballads are still MUCH better though. Mitsumetaitai, Nobody knows but me, Shiroi no Tsubasa, my life are GOLD MADE OF GOLD I'M TELLING YA.

And the remix of Namida was surprisingly smooth and pleasant! go alan~

Dear god alan's energy in Swear makes Liberty seem like LoveGame. That's how much I hate her voice in Swear XD

if my life was going to be another Voice of EARTH part 2 , I will chuck & press delete the whole album straightaway on my laptop

maybe 1 real test to see whether my life is reaching to the audience or not is when it performs on the chart this coming week ?

it's unfortunate that my life's not going to be a top10 contender in the top10 album of the year list for me & that probably goes for everyone else .___.

I'm afraid alan will do worse with this album, the only thing that can pull her out (or knock her down?) is the fact that my life's got less single tracks. Does anyone know if she was doing better promotion with this album? I mean, if VoE couldn't warm up the audience for her, how could this album?

^I think my life is going to do better on the charts than VoE actually. Firstly, She's become MUCH more popular now. I'm not sure about promotion though but I bet avex promoted this album a lot more than VoE. Secondly, this album sounds much more commercial than VoE IMO. I think majority of alan fans would like this kinda music, but hey, we'll find out when the time comes

Let's just break down Voice of EARTH and my life:

Spoiler:

Voice of EARTH

01. Tennyo ~interlude~ - probably the best interlude I've heard in my life. It's made of epic win.

02. Ashita e no Sanka - do I HAVE to say anything to this epicness?

03. Sora Uta - this is yet another epic upbeat song.

04. Natsukashii Miari ~longing future~ - one of the most beautiful songs out there, it really sends shivers down your spine near the end.

05. Hitotsu - a stunning and ultimately beautiful ballad.

06. Kaze no Tegami - a bit darker, but still epic and very interesting song.

07. BRAVE - WHOA. This is what a good upbeat song is called like.

08. Yume no Garden - this song is one of the most kick-ass ethereal songs I've heard in my whole life.

09. Gunjou no Tani - now that's a great example of yet another epic song on the album.

10. my friend - a really nice song with great instrumentation. Some people might consider it as boring but I personally love it.

11. Liberty - probably the least amazing song on the album, but it's still very good.

12. Tsuki ga Watashi - Beautiful. Another great song.

13. RED CLIFF ~kokoro.ikusa~ - epic win.

14. Megumi no Ame - my favorite song by alan and it owns everything with the beautiful hidden emotion in it.

15. Together - another WHOA song. Too bad it's only in limited release.

Conclusion: EPIC EPIC EPIC. It really holds everything that makes alan alan. Nature themed songs, traditional inspred music and WAILING. Voice of EARTH might have consisted of most ballads, but they were EPIC, not boring at all, and none of the works were destroyed by lazy instrumentation or anything.

Speaking of destroying alan, my life was released.

my life

01. reflection ~overture~ - you can't compare this to Tennyo, you simply can't. It's boring and uninteresting.

02. Swear - this could probably be the best upbeat song on the album. Even though most people loathe this song (as I did at first), I love it.

03. One - bleh. Boring. Like someone said earlier, a few first notes of the chorus sound surprisingly good, but then it gets weird.

04. Mitsumeteitai - one of the rare good ballads. But still nothing too special.

05. Namida (Smooth Jam Mix) - I want to kill avex for including this. It's not a bad remix, but why the hell does it have to be on an album? I love Namida, but I really don't care for this remix.

06. Lost Child - actually sounds very interesting, but still lacks something.

07. Butterflies - another bleh sounding song, at least everything except the chorus, but it still might used some more interesting instruments and composition.

08. Essence of me - it's too long and not really interesting if you ask me.

09. Call my name - I HATE the "are you ready" parts as they kill the song completely. Other than that it's very forgettable.

10. Shiroi Tsubasa - nice sounding but again turns into an uninteresting ballad.

11. Nobody knows but me - yay for this song. At least it's something good on the album!

12. BALLAD ~namonaki koi no uta~ - EPIC ballad. Because of it's epicness it seems to be out of the place in the album.

13. Kuon no Kawa - the only song that sounds like something from Voice of EARTH, something as epic. And it is epic. alan should stick to these kind of songs, or almost any on Voice of EARTH.

14. my life - great surprise at the end of the album. This song owns all the other new songs on this album!

Conclusion: To say honestly, alan made my heart sink with this album. I really thought she is the new Ayu for me, but now I really don't know. Most of it are boring up-beat songs which are really hard to sit through, but here I am trying the best I can, which is sad, as for Voice of EARTH, I instantly fell in love with it.

You guys get the difference now? I simply can't bring myself over to compare anything from Voice of EARTH with my life. Because Voice of EARTH wins over anything on my life. Well, it wins over at least the all non-single songs.

And yes, I do realize that Voice of EARTH mostly consisted of singles, but why does that even matter? I look at it as a full album and just an album. If most of the songs were strong and epic it only makes it better.

How can you compare alan and Ayu? Seriously?
Ayu's first album consisted of pop-rock tracks.
Alan's first album consisted of ballads with an enka feel.
Ayu wrote all of her lyrics from the start.
Alan co-wrote one song and composed one song.

It's impossible to compare the both. I wish people would stop to be honest. As much as I love alan, there is no way to compare them. >_<

Plus the interview in pommy's blog just goes to show you that THIS is the musical direction alan is taking on her own accord. I understand if people dislike it...but you shouldn't be disappointed in someone for doing what their heart tells them to.

Well I for one am not going to pretend that this is my favorite album....its a great album but its just not one of my favorites. I only liked certain tracks like my life, Kuon no Kawa (which honestly doesnt feel like it belongs and souldve been on VoE) and BALLAD.

I never said alan was like ayu in any way. I just said it in the way that she was my new ayu, like the artist who I love the most. Sorry if I was unclear at that part.

Well if she's taking that direction then great. I never said I'm disappointed in her for doing things her heart tells her to. I never knew it in the first place.

That's why I'll try not to be disappointed and I'm listening to my life to try to like the songs.

No hard feelings, I love alan and I'll always give her lots of chances, I'm just saddened that she probably won't make anything like Voice of EARTH anymore.

This is the kind of pop Japan eats up, I think she'll do better chart and sales wise this time.

alan fans are as unpleasable as Ayufans lol. She did what everyone wanted, and it's getting such negative feed back. It's her SECOND album people, it' snot going to be perfect right off the bat. I think that alan is still developing, and this is only a step, she hasn't finished the path yet, but she's just starting on it. No artist starts out phenomenal, remember A Song for XX and LOVEppears and all their subpar album tracks? Even Hikki didn't start making all good music, so why should we expect alan to be perfect on only her second album ever?

Let her grow as an artist, take my life as a step towards a sound that's not fully developed yet. Voice of EARTh is a sound that's not fully developed yet either. The game of music is a marathon, not a sprint
