I dunno...
I just think Engrish is bad. I listen to JPop for the Japanese, not for the English. Otherwise, I could just listen to Beyonce or something. |

I like Engrish - if it's not stupid. As much as I love Namie, I'm still wondering what "Body feels Exit" means.

Speaking of this song, part of the chorus part has some weird English. "I feel the brightness love..." Haha. Oh, and sorry to go off-tpoic, but I've been looking for the PV for this song, so if you have it, please upload it for download. I have requested it. Thanks. AyuLover

Many Engrish is meaningful for Japanese.
There are many strict reasons to use Engrish. For example,Japanese listen to Japanese with left brain and good Engrish with right brain. Last edited by ayumin; 9th March 2004 at 02:50 PM. |

Yea...but it's those words that makes Japanese english really difficult to understand, because they're used to pronounciating it the katakana way which is really difficult to listen to o_O'

Maybe it's because English is not my first language, but I don't see why Engrish should be annoying..since we are listening to lyrics we dont' understand anyway what does it matter if some undistinguible phrases are thrown into them. o.O;; Most Engrish do make some sort of sense though...I have yet to hear a totally meaningless Engrish phrase anywhere.

I think it can be out right bad espeically one BoA song..She sings about 'spilled milk' or something along those lines. I can't take the song seriously enough. I'm not ragging on BoA cause I like her songs hella lot. But I feel if they are going to inject English sentances into their songs to make them correct otherwise they just come out comedian type.
It is a different ball game if they are speaking English though..Let them stuff up then because they are learning how to speak it..But singing it they probably aren't so much..it is just in the lyrics to sound "cool".

singing in english great.................... if you pronounce it right. i've heard BoA sing in english numerous times and personally think theres been no improvement whatsoever. utada seems to be fine at it, since she's gonna release an english album anyways (i think~) and another example, koda kumi with Real Emotion and 100 Words - why why why?!?! it just totally ruined the image of a good song. *sigh...

most of the time i dont really like asians singing engrish.. esp when it is obviously meaningless.. like added just for the sake of it.. like for japanese singers.. pls stick to japanese pls.. but sometimes i think engrish does sound nice..i hardly listen to BoA's songs.. so i cant really comment.. ayumi sounds darn cute when she sings engrish.. i cant understand the engrish hyde sings most of the time.. but i think his pronounciation is pretty good! hee.. I didn't like 'Break of Dawn.." tomiko shld stick to singing pretty pony~pretty pony~pretty pony~

I agree with you there Set...most pop artists use Engrish just because it's 'cool' and whatnot...but when un-mainstream artists do it they usually do it with some sort of style or meaning...like Shiina Ringo, Onitsuka Chihiro, etc. Looks like there's always gonna be Engrish until one day Japan finally uses English for its official language..o.o

It's fine with me when there are a few engrish here and there in a japanese song, sometimes they do sound pretty cute. But if the singer sings too much engrish or the entire song in engrish and especially when it's beyond understanding, then it really turns me off >.<
By the way, I also like Tomiko (D.A.I)'s engrish X

For me engrish is when you have a sentence that doesn't make sense like BoAs "Shine we are"...It's ok if the pronounciation is bad but when the lyrics don't make sence I think they should stick with japanese...The one with the best english is Utada...BoA I can mostly understand her english..Just listen to DOUBLE the english version and Sara the english version her english there is very good....And Namies english has improved a lot since her debut and the lyrics in her songs do make sence....But sometimes it can be cute with engrish.
