I read the english translations in the lyrics section of ahs and to be honest...doesn't mean much to me nor does it make a lot of sense.

The lyrics are an important part of the song - why shouldn't people like them or even have them as their primary reason for liking her? Without the lyrics that she pens herself, she would just be like any regular pop artist pretty much - its because they come from her that makes the songs special.

for me is actually her voice and her music.. the tone of the music.. i love her and listen to her songs almost every minute of my life when i am feeling very down.. but now when i am much more happier i have start to turn to other singers.
i seriously like her voice and her music.. it sounds different than the normal pop or RnB songs i get to hear. her songs are like very close to the mood i am feeling.. and true enough i get very emotional whenever i listen to her voice and music.. listening to her songs are like entering into another world for me.. and that is why i am so obssessed with her..
unlike listening to other singers, or watching their pvs.. they are like just dancing and singing.. they don't stir up much feeling in me..

Her work ethic. She tries incredibly hard and she doesn't give up. I admire and respect that very much.

Her lyrics are the first & main reason I like Ayu.
She doesn't have an amazing voice to differentiate her from other J-Pop singers imo (I'm gonna be shooted for this >_>) but what she sings makes her unique & honest. But I also think she has some of the best music compositions and arrangements that really get you hooked, especially the compositions she did herself.

so what if i'm here first b/c of her lyrics. i'll say it-- she has amazing lyrics. boohoo if you just can't stand reading that over and over again. thank God it's primarily her lyrics that wins over most fans and not her looks and the music alone. rather have it her lyrics above all as that is the one raw thing that is truly from her heart. *rolls eyes* think about it. be glad it's so.

but to make you happy, here's another reason why i fell in love with her as an artist: her music was "genius-ly" (in quotes b/c i kno the word doesn't exist) composed. not only that, she always seems to sound like she truly sings from her heart. she's one of the few singers who has that gift of emotional outreach in how she uses her voice. it also helps that her voice has an addicting sound.

Could you? I'd like to hear!

To be honest, before I knew anything about Ayu, or where to find information or even music videos of hers, the first thing that attracted me to her was that she was beautiful. In my defense, that was initial - right before I clicked on a preview of her songs. I think I actually hated her voice at first.
The answer to your question is why I kept returning to her that preview, got hooked on Startin', bought the song, and started looking up her music videos. But what that answer is, I really don't know! :s

The lyrics and everything that makes her music/person deeper and more interesting are what got me to stay, though, and what have made me such a big fan. So don't discredit them so much!

its not that it's a problem. but as i went page through page. almost all the answers were lyrics lyrics lyrics. doesn't anyone listen to a song just to listen to a song? what do you like in her besides her lyrics. I never said it had to be your number one answer.

My first ayu buy was Memorial Address and i seriously knew next to nothing about ayu. The only song i was conscious about was End Roll n i only remembered that i liked the melody a lot. MA made me very interested in ayu. Her vocals were alright with me but the instrumentals really impressed me. It was so much better than the bubblegum pop flooding the billboard charts in those days and there was this clip on A Museum which showed footage of her performance of DoY, M... I was sold, i just had to know more about her.

Oh yeah, the PVs in MA blew me away too. A really diverse, unique and fascinating bunch.

Its weird.. I like not knowing what the song means word for word.. because then I can make my own meaning? Its left for me to interpret.. Depending on my mood or what I am going through... I mean I can tell if its a sad song.. angry song.. happy song.. but beyond that I can give it my own meaning.

But now that I am learning Japanese its like I'm discovering this whole new side of ayumi.. her music is reinventing itself with new meaning... I have a better idea what she is trying to say thru her music.

U don't really need to read a translation to know the lyrics are heartbreaking, cause the way she sings it says it all.
I have to go back to when I heard Ayu's song "Free & Easy,"...I was 14 when this song came out and that was also when my interest in her music began. At that time, I felt like there was a creative freedom with her unique appearance like the fact that she has safety pins/paper clips on her clothes and the things she sings about...."Love and freedom,"

It was a refreshing experience (as it always is) to see different ideas expressed in her PVs...like "Joan of Arc," and my dark mind thought about "Death of Ayu" "Death of Constant Change..." That's what I love about Ayu. Her constant change...you may call it flashiness, but I like to think of it like a star or light that constantly changes form but comes back even bigger and better and in more unexpected ways....

Yeah. That's my Ayu that I love. You never see the same Ayu twice, EVER.

For me, I foremost like her voice and the emotion she puts into her lives.
Then it would be her pvs, compositions, then lyrics.
To tell the truth, I haven't looked up the lyrics to most of her songs. But when I do, it makes me love her more.

Well I don't understand the lyrics without reading translations anyways so this is not that hard for me to visualize . What got me about Ayu's music was that her songs tend to have really catchy melodies, and I loved the energy in them. Even though I don't understand what she is saying, I still get this uplifting vibe from a lot of her songs...which gives me a good feeling. Also, I think Ayu's voice can sound really cute and/or beautiful depending on the type of song...despite the fact that her vibrato can be a little over the top for me at times <.<...

But yeah, that pretty much sums it up for me. I feel really drawn to Ayu's energetic and power-driven music.

My first Ayu song was also my first japanese Song, so I didn't even knew what words liek Watashi oder Namida meant xD So the main thing I like her is the music itself. When I later read a translation of the songs and it's nice too that just makes it better

While I will admit that her lyrics *do* really have an impact on me, more than even that it is that her image and her persona are both so inspirational. She has this strong, positive outlook that I only wish I could have these days... it truly makes me believe that no matter how I feel or what's going wrong, there's gotta be a way to keep my chin up. She never quits, like I so desperately want to at times... she doesn't let negativity beat her.

Also, I admire how open she is with her fanbase, and how she hasn't really become jaded or calloused due to her fame. I sometimes believe that enough fame can pretty much rob a person of their soul - they have no privacy, no way to live like normal people, and they're constantly being berated and attacked by press and the like. But Ayumi has found a way to rise above that and break that stereotype. That's just so admirable to me.

I like the sound of her voice in her Songs.
I like her looking and she is natural.
For me ayu is the best Singer in the World.
For real I don't understand her Lyrics, cause I don't understand japanese. But sometimes I find some lyrics translated in my language and sometimes I cry about that.
But the main point to get in, is to meet other fans from all over the world and speak about our Star^^ I know some german Fans, but they are far away from me.
