@pommy: LOL I thought I was the only weird one like that. XD Kuu is fabulous. I love her style, her covers usually rock, and she has the cutest, bubbliest personality ever but I have yet to hear one song by her I loved or even liked. I haven't had the chance to listen to Sukide3x yet but I have tried some of her more famous and a few obscure songs and Gossip Candy and her style of music and singing just doesn't appeal to me... when looking at her influences I then began to see why.

Yep, that's pretty much me. But that's due more to my own personal taste. I love love LOVE female voices (especially the high, squeaky ones people tend to dislike), I rarely listen to male artists outside of Rock/Metal. The only ones I can think of are Justin Timberlake and Micheal Jackson (which even then I'm not like a huge fan of). Plus most of the stuff Boybands sing about is just so corny and tiresome to me, it's like if they're not singing about girls, they're singing about themselves. Then there's my friend who loves K/J-pop boybands who INSISTS there's this major difference between them and American boybands and even showed me some songs and videos but I just don't see it. @_@ Not that I had an interest anyway but her stubborn "wapanese-ness" kinda put the nail in the coffin for me. Plus, the music itself was just... awful, so that's that.

I don't like to TOTALLY rule artists out though because you never know... like I had ruled AKB48 out when listening to their past singles and finding most of them to be incredibly dull but they managed to get my attention again with the newer ones so I've giving them a second chance.

But I know my own tastes and I know when I won't like something so in that respect I do rule genres (and their artists) out like mainstream Rap/Hip Hop/R&B. I'm mostly a Pop/Rock/Metal person.

Most anything JE. Until they decide that manorexia isn't an attractive body type and JE-feathered hair is just silly (because, let's face it, their primary appeal certainly isn't their musical artistry). At least the Korean boybands have slamming bodies.

Most anything visual kei. JE in superficial "rock" form, complete with manorexia and silly hair. Again, it's not about musical artistry (they're a far cry from the pillows, Mr. Children, B'z), so get some slamming bodies and good hair.

I can't listen to Korean music in general. Cheap production values and lack of musical identity. It's just subpar J-pop/C-pop. Even BoA sounds better in Japanese.

I do like how Korean male artists are HOT and have great bodies. So much more than the Japanese. So I don't really care if the music is second-rate, so long as I get to see the eye candy

And Angela Aki is a GIFT to J-pop. If only there were more like her and and less like Yui, finding joy in music and performance rather than reticence and apathy. Stop being "cool", Yui. Same for you, Hikki.

^You think Koshi has a nice body? lol I usually rule out visual kei bands because they reminds me slightly of emo bands in the states. The only one I don't rule out is BREAKERZ! They're cool like that! 8D

and I have the next artist Miliyah Kato. I tried, I really tried to like her, find at least few songs to be listenable for me, appreciate her voice but it didn't work.

^I respect Miliyah for what she does, and I really really like her...but yeah, I have a hard time finding songs of her that I really like lol

Most of them are just like, listen-able.

And about the personality conversation...that was something I learned here. That some people cant like an artist if they don't like their personality...even if the music is totally amazing.

I think it's sad they can't be in it for the music, cause I think they miss out...but hey, everyone likes different things for different reasons.

^With me, it's less about personality than an approach to music. You have been given a gift, a talent, then frigging celebrate it! Stop being so damned angsty about it! Be a little more grateful. And, personally, it comes across in their music and performances. There is a noticeable lack of passion.

That's why I respect artists who work hard and find joy in sharing their gifts and talents with others moreso than those who tend to be "cold" towards their own abilities and what they can give to the world.

Yurichan: Hell yeah Koshi (Inaba) has a fine body But I was talking more about the artistry B'z has compared to the general lack of any in visual kei.

^Oh, he's not a guilty pleasure for me at all. Just a pleasure. Haha! He's so manly and sexy. I really can't stand the whole herbivore movement that all the young music artists and celebrities are a part of. I hope they bring back the City Hunter-type back soon.

Oh yes, I am terrible !!!
If if even see a cover (of a band/artist) that I don't like, that's that. And it's not just in music, also in movies and games and e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g !

But it kind of works the other way 'round too: if a band even has ONE good song out of 50, I'll still always praise the band and download/buy everything they put out there.

So I am so glad the first Ayu song was one I really liked - otherwise.... Oh dear Lord !!

Sometimes I just go to jpopasia-website and press something and listen to songs from werid bands/artists. I found f(x) and YUI by doing that, so I am really happy
U never know ~~

I do this sometimes, but I usually tend to hope that maybe this next one will be the one I like. If I hate someone's voice...well of course that's a dealbreaker right there. I'm also picky about genre. But I do try new artists a lot.

Unfortunately, sometimes I'll discover a song I love SO MUCH only to find that the artist hasn't made any other songs in that style.

Yes: Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.

I don't even care about their releases, and I don't care if they are good or not.

Oh, and for asian artists: Kanon Wakeshima.
I first liked her, until Shinshoku Dolce (pretty first album) and a horrible live performance of Suna no Oshiro. I don't even give her that 'second change' to let me listen to another album with a voice like she's dying.

*The following artists mentioned are artists who I have personally listened to prior to forming my opinions on them.

-ARASHI (I just don't get it. I've tried to listen to their music and honey let me tell you, I'm not impressed)
-YUI (ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ)
-aiko (her music sounds very regurgitated)
-Korean/Japanese Girl Groups (DEAR GOD PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!!!!!)
-GIRLS NEXT DOOR (the most underwhelming group I've ever come across)
-Korean Boybands (N'SYNC & BACKSTREETBOYS 4 ****ING EVER!!!!!)
-Gackt (he dun goofed)
