I love NL covers too, when I saw them, my first thought was "wow, no random shots, it really fits the theme of the album". I like the plastic, futuristic look, it somehow reflects the overall sound of the songs.

I just wish the difference in all three versions CD / CD + DVD / 2CD + DVD was bigger, some other pose or angle, it's like almost the same picture.

for me the NEXT LEVEL, (m)u, MY STORY and Duty covers are not good!!!!!
I prefer Secret, I am..., RnRC, Loveppears and GUILTY covers!!!!!!! IMO.

I agree with you actually...there was a time when I thought all of her covers were totally amazing...but one day I like, was just looking at all of them, and they kinda...aren't lol

It was also after I was more into other artists.

They're not totally bad or awful or anything...and they're very "her". They're also usually interesting in some way....and her booklets are always amazing.

The covers I actually LOVE are none of the original albums. i LOVE A BALLADS and A BEST & A BEST II covers. The ones from orig that are nearly "perfect" are RAINBOW, Guilty, Asfxx, and MS

I love both covers to be honest. But the NEXT LEVEL ones are probably my favorite original album covers. I'm simple, I love colors.

I think the total opposite about the NEXT LEVEL covers. The composition is so good.

Though at first I was shocked, her eyes looked so big in the 2CD+DVD version (the first cover that was revealed). And then the other covers came out and I thought, "damn... this surely is something lol".

But now, looking back I think perhaps those covers were out of time and space. They surely do not belong to this era, just yet lol. I think that in the future or even right now we can appreciate the value and how artistically daring they are, and at the same time so easily composed and following most of the rules of composition (shape, colour, etc).

The text was a bit misplaced, but really that's all I can complain about those covers.

I love her off-look facial expression, I love how fake she looks, I love how stupid dressed she might be, but aye, people who dare are the ones who are remembered. I'm sure that in 10 or 20 years, people are going to remember the covers of NEXT LEVEL and not the covers for HEAVEN, MOON / blossom and L.



EDIT: Anyway photography is art, and art is subjective.

@surrealrainbow: That's fine, people like her NL covers. For me, it's the fact that the text placement creates these lines that, aren't parallel to each other, and don't fit together. And they're so major in the whole overall composition...it just looks so weird and off.

I think the concept and everything is cool thought, and I don't really have a problem with her outfit and hair so much, except that...she's looked better...but then, I guess it does fit with the album.

Oh...and I just don't like the little animal in her hair coming down to cover her tattoo...that's like, some of the worst photoshop I've ever seen lol

I thought the only good compositional NEXT LEVEL cover was the USB version where you could actually see the setting. The rest were just boring and ridiculous. Not very great compositionally for those.

Then again yeah, looking at the empty half of the glass, NEXT LEVEL's shoot had SO MUCH POTENTIAL... and I don't think shimoko brought the best out of it. He has good ideas but I don't think he achieves them a 100%, but still I like his works, sometimes lol

If he's gonna shoot Love songs' covers, I'm ready to expect the unexpected xD We might get ayu holding dead animals and 'Love songs' written with blood... who knows

Yes, I agree there is always some flaw in her album covers. Like it was mentioned above, I also love the "other" covers - like A BALLADS is my favorite. Perfect. Love A COMPLETE because she is gorgeous. A BEST 2 (not the CD+DVD of BLACK though - hate it).

Imo only Duty, I am..., RAINBOW, A BEST, A BALLADS and Memorial Address covers were amazing. The NEXT LEVEL ones could've been as the idea was nice, but it was poorly executed.
